It Is Like Visual Music

Hello everyone! I have always loved artwork, especially paintings. It is calming and peaceful to gaze at artwork, whether in books or museums. Artwork is like visual music to is so expressive...the interplay of light, shadow, texture....

One of the things I like to discuss is my favorite artists and those of other folks as well. As for me, my favorite painter is Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882 - May 15, 1967) I love his work. He was an American realist painter, and a member of "The Eight", or as is more commonly known today, "The Ashcan School of American Art." The members included William Glackens (1870-1938), Robert Henri (1865-1929), George Luks (1867-1933), Everett Shinn (1876-1953) and John French Sloan (1871-1951), along with Arthur B. Davies (1862-1928), Ernest Lawson (1873-1939) and Maurice Prendergast (1859-1924). The picture below is of John F. Sloan & friends at Sloan's studio in Philadelphia, PA. in 1898.
