I agree and this post makes me want to paint a painting. I haven't painted in a few months.

I haven't painted much in ages, either. It's time, methinks. :)

Ironically, I can make my art because I can spend long periods of time in my studio room, and it helps to be an introvert to be able to do that. But then the business world and society require extroversion so I have to constantly switch gears and force myself to be outgoing in order to afford to be introverted. lol Sort of like a "catch 22" all the time.

Yes, exactly! I want to make a career, again, out of doing art, but I find myself wanting to recluse a LOT, since I have been out of the workforce for the last 11 years. Hiding out by myself seems to help me create better, and it is my haven from the world. I like to get lost in my own surrealistic mind! lol

And the only way I know how to create is by hiding out by myself. And by getting lost in my imagination.

Or we all share some of the same basic personality traits. I don't think a die hard extrovert would spend days alone in a room.

Same here, but I need the real thing so I don't pass out on my camera. Besides, being half Italian food is like religion...... but so is art.... so they run neck in neck. But then I cook also, so making food is like another art form. Damn... on a roll here. lol

Yeah, food and art, my two favorite things. When I cook, balancing sweet and sour is just like balancing the tonal range in photography. There is a weird correlation with the two. Light and dark, sweet and sour... one and the same. Zone 8 and pass the salt.

And you do pottery? I envy people who can handle ceramics. I work with clay, but I put it on cardboard and let it dry to mimic ancient ruins and such. For me to make an actual working pot or cup would throw off the natural order of the universe.

No, I work with polymer clay. I would love to do pottery. Need a kiln and more space to do it, though. Painting, textile art, jewelry making, and some photography are my main pursuits. :)

Hmmm...I think firing temps, maybe. Polymer clay fires in a toaster oven! lol
Plus it doesn't have to be wet to work with it. It comes in a wide variety of colors, and is mostly used for small scale sculpture over, say, vases and dinnerware.

Interesting. The clay I work with has to be kept wet all the time. It's air dry clay. Take it out of the wet environment and the air dries it..... I know... totally simplistic.

I'm reading two of Lynda Barry's books right now, "What It Is" and "The Near-sighted Monkey".

She said (to paraphrase) that a painting is not a depiction of a world. It is a world. We move through it.

As a painter myself, I was struck by the profundity of that comment.

When I'm painting, there's this niggling concern for how a viewer will cotton to it.

    Does it "read" right?

    Are the colors balanced?

More to the point, is this a world someone will want to inhabit?

Des~ The greay symbolism about art is that it has so many meanings to so many people; all of them moved in a different way, yet the appreciation nonetheless is quite awe inspiring. Myself I gaze at each piece and let my eyes get lost in the movement within, and feel it teeming energy, tranquility and happiness from the inner calm I derive from it. Take me to an art museum any day of the week and see my spirits and senses put in order! Great piece by the way!
