How I Came To Know A Great Soul Through Music
I had known about Bob Marley for many years, (Because he's famous) but being from a farming community in Nebraska, never heard any of his music except a couple things in movies and such. When I saw I Am Legend with Will Smith playing "Three Little Birds" there was a part of a speech he gave to the other character, I don't remember her name, but it was along the lines of, "He had a viral theory of kindness, that you can infect another person with it, and music is the vehicle you use." A couple days later, I was in Best Buy and decided to pick up a cd. I grabbed Legend, and threw it in the player in my truck. I really enjoyed how powerful both his voice and lyrics were, but everything changed when track 12 rolled around. I got about 45 seconds into Redemption Song before I had to pull over because I was weeping too much to see the road. I'd never heard anything like it before. It was like he tore the pain out of his very soul and threw it at you through the mic. But there was still a glimmer of hope and optimism. That's when I knew I'd be listening to him til I died.
