We've had 3 dogs over the last 20 years our first Sheba Juliet a lab and setter mix, her first consort Chance a black and white bordercollie, Sheba's second consort is Archer of Eight Mile Lodge a Cheasapeake Bay retriever. Sheba was a real doggie floosy she liked the guys. We had a couple of neighbor dogs that would hang around the house to visit Sheb's. Prince William and Sir Lancelot both kinda muttly but sweet. Their courting time was over when we bought Chance. All other boyfriends paled after he arrived. Sheb's really loved him. He was 3 months old when we bought him. She did still like to flirt a floozy for life. A golden retriever less than a year old would come visit. Sheba was always delighted. Chance was crazy jealous. Sheba had puppies around the time Chance was a year old. She beat him up until he figured out how he was supposed to give her what she wanted. What she wanted produced 11 puppies. End of story.

I need to find some border collies around the neighborhood! It's funny. Some friends I've reconnected with online long distance...we have border collies, smooth coats. I've asked if they came from the same litter because they are almost identical! : )

lol, I hope I'm a nice owner of a border collie! I love that you can talk with them instead of give commands and they completely understand. "Sit!" and she goes "I don't like that tone, can you say it nicer" with her eyes. It's a lot of sentences and "discussions" with her. I love all dogs but maybe I'm partial because mine is a border collie. I will say, their need for intellectual stimulation can be exhausting. Always learning, always eager. Or they can get very neurotic when bored. Still, I love this breed for how compatible they are with me. It works and it's love. Don't know how else to explain it! : )

WiseOldOwl - beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing - brought a smile to my heart (as dogs always tend to do).

And you had a dog named Lucy - just like my dog!

I love border collies too, i think they are the most sensible pedigree sort of dog, you can get. i would like a puppy but the responsibility out weighs me having one, so my decision is no.

"big giant lap dogs" aint that the truth.

    Thanks for all the comments.

One of Lucy's funny traits was to place her paw on my foot, as I was nearing the last bite of whatever.

If anyone in the family was feeling low, or not well, she would sit or lie near them.

Luna121, I'm sorry to hear of Meg, sometimes it's for the best though. It was a tough decision for me, Lucy went to sleep for the last time at the vets.

You know what? I'll bet your memories of Meg are as strong as mine of Lucy.

Yes Lilly, they are like that. If you lock them up alone they get bored and tend to look for something to do.

They will chase balls and frisbees all day long. For a while, mine would walk me 12 kms each night.

I can't take all the credit for the photos, some were taken by a friend.

Datura, I'm pleased for your fond memories.

Joywish, What a shame about the allergies. They also have very soft hair around their eyes and cheeks, the tips of their ears are like velvet.

When my oldest son was young we had a border collie named Red. She was the most loyal friend and a great pet for a boy to grow up with.

I love the photo of the boy frolicking in the surf with the dogs. It reminds me of my son and Red.
