In The Blood

I grew up camping.  My parents took me on my first camping trip when I was 4 months old. I was lucky enough to experience camping in many beautiful places throughout North America.  I have been to Fundy in New Brunswick, Banff and Jasper in Alberta, and Pacific Rim in B.C Glacier and Yellowstone, Lassen and Acadia.  Many other National and state parks.  I love everything about camping.  Being in a tent, the camp fire, roasting marshmallows and hanging laundry on trees!  The thing I love most about camping is being close to the animals.  I remember waking up and looking out of my tent flap to see about 10 grazing elk right outside of the tent!  Black bears in the dumpsters, before they were bear proof!  Canoeing in chrystal clear glacier water, feeling the native American spirits close by, which always made me feel sad and melancholy.  I love the mountains, the ocean, the woods.  Before I die I want to see the desert it is the one place I haven't been.  My absolute favorite thing has always sleeping under a blanket of stars!

thanks treehugger - great story. I love it too. Living amongst nature is wonderful and I love how natural it feels to live in your little homemade space ... it's hard to go back to normal living I find after a spell of living under canvas. I love cooking on an open fire and eating outdoor and sleeping under the stars is just brilliant.

One of my favorite memories is camping out under the stars after a tiring hike. Lying there watching the darkening sky reveal the stars in progression. The detail of my surroundings slowly fading away as the darkness overtakes the visual ability. The feeling of total relaxation brought on by the hike and then the amazing display of the night sky. A very nice memory.
