I Love Carving Pumpkins
I have decided that pumpkin/watermelon carving is my talent....because otherwise, I am completely talentless. Ever since I was small I loved carving jack-o-lanterns. Then once the Pumpkin Masters patterns came out, I was going crazy trying to master the difficult patterns. Of course at first, there were a few carvings that had a few pieces held together by tape & toothpicks, but I was determined to be good at something. Eventually with persistence, I actually became really good.
Once my son was born I started carving the pumpkins to go along with his costume. One of my favorites' was his 2nd Halloween, he was dressed like Yoda, so I carved his pumpkin with Yoda's portrait. This past Halloween was the first time I entered one of my patterns into the Pumpkin Masters contest. I made an awesome sugar skull design. My family likes to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos along with Halloween. Then one day one of my cousins was having a luau, and she asked me if I thought I could carve a hula girl in a watermelon. I told her that I had never carved a watermelon before, but I was up to the task. The watermelon came out awesome & it was the hit of the party. When the candle was put inside it glowed with a beautiful bright pink color.
I definitely prefer pumpkins over watermelons though, because if you thought the inside of a pumpkin is messy, a watermelon is a 100 times worse. I was covered in watermelon juice from my head to my toes!!
