I'm sorry....I agree with other posts that you should go to a vet to see if anything is wrong. However one of my cats went through this last year when my cat Ally died. After she died, my other cat would walk around the house and meow, but it was a deep meow not like her normal meows. She also was not herself. After a couple of weeks things got back to normal. i know you said your cat doesnt play not but try playing and giving them a lot of attention.

I'm so sorry sweetie :( I don't really have anything to add, BeeBopper said it all, just be there for him the same as you would a human who had lost someone close. When he gives the deep miaow, try giving him a cuddle and make sure you make time to play with him, outside if the weather is good. I wish you both the best :) Peace out x

Your little cat is grieving, his family and playmate has gone, make sure you give him lots of love and attention.
The feliway is a good idea, it is rather expensive I have recently go2 new cats and I really think its helping their 'big sister relax around them(we recently had them all in the living room together for cuddles for the 1st time)
Unfortunately however because you can't speak your cats language, explaining the situation isn't an option.
Lots of cuddles, speak to him in a gentle low voice, this will help him relax around you more and he will pick up on how you are feeling too.
I don't recommend over use of treats as they can be high in sugars which would lead to health problems, give them in moderation, such as if you call him over to play and he comes to you, this just strengthens the positive association with you and playtime.
Generally try not to stress too much as the cat will pick up on this and it will put him on edge, relax and enjoy your bonding time with him.
Knowing he has you as a friend and playmate will stop him becoming bored and depressed.
However worry if he stops eating,(make sure not to over fill his bowl, cats comfort eat too)sleeps more then normal, drinks a lot more water or grooms too much(leaving patches of exposed skin or making himself bleed) take him to see your Vet asap, as these can all be signs of Depression or an underlying health issue.
Hope your lil kitty feels better soon. Love to you both xxx >'x'<

Your cat is probably just grieving, we've had the same with ours. He will settle down though and getting him to chase something will get him out in the garden once again. Stay out there with him.

Oh sweetie! I'm so sorry! I wouldn't worry about it so much. Cats are very funny creatures. They grieve in a way that we don't fully understand. Just show him as much attention and love as you can. He'll get through this.

Feather toys, other cat toys, get him things he can play with. It will take time same as it does for us when grieving, don't be worried, just spend as much time as you can when you can. Does he have a cat tree he can see outside from?
I put Squeak to sleep Friday, Annie has torn the couch apart looking for her. Like Annie, your cat will take time to heal from the loss.

We had 4 cats and now have 2 and they also went from come and go at will to being only indoors. When they get bored one will pick on the other one or they will wander around and meow loudly.

The major changes make them bored and frustrated. We also find that the extra attention we give them helps and we also use an herbal calmative that we got from the pet store.

Careful with catnip though. One cat gets calm and the other gets more hyper.

I faced what you're facing, about 3 1/2 years ago. Two brothers, orange tabbies. The first was diagnosed with diabetes, and I was just starting to give him insulin shots when his brother was diagnosed with acute renal failure. Nothing we could do for him except put him to sleep. For the next 3 weeks, the diabetic one was obviously grieving the loss of his brother, and at the same time adjusting to the insulin shots (which he didn't like - I had to chase him down (indoor cat, BTW) and haul him to the kitchen table where the shot was waiting for him). Too, he wasn't eating nearly as much as he normally would. I was really afraid I was going to lose him too. But after about 3 weeks, he finally realized that the insulin was doing him some good, and one morning he woke up with an appetite and an attitude. From then on, he'd come when called when it was time for his shot, his appetite returned to normal, and he adjusted to being an only cat. He was always affectionate anyway, and he did become more so; he was always close to me around the house. He lived another 3 years before succumbing to small cell lymphoma (cancer of the stomach and intestines) last summer.

I was fortunate to be around all the time (I'm retired), so did my best to give him all of the attention I could, even bringing treats to him so they'd be available when he woke up from his naps. Lots of petting, soft talk, cuddling. Let him sleep with you if you can, and do all you can to assure him that he's loved and very special. He should adjust, it may just take time. If he has special treats, make sure he gets them often, and as I said, talk to him, lots of petting and brushing, play with him (favorite toys, or even just a paper bag, or wad up a ball of paper and toss it for him - be creative). Good luck!

Awww.... I'm sorry you are in this position.

1 - I would take him to the vet to rule out any physical illness first. This is really important.

2 - I would buy 'feliway" http://www.feliway.c o m - this is a synthetic phermone that makes many cats feel more calm and secure. It can be pricey, but after the initial purchase you just buy replacements. They plug into the wall like an airfresher would.

3 - Try a Bach natural remedy such as "Rescue Remedy" - this is quite popular and affordable

4 - Spend as much time with him as possible! Spoil him. He is likely feeling sad because his buddy is gone. Many cats do much better with a friend, so ask your parents again if they'd consider getting another cat so the two of them can keep each other company.
