The Stray That Changed Me

I am in my late twenties and never really cared for cats. I thought they were annoying and moody and never thought of owning one. One day I found a stray and brought her home because I felt bad and thought about trying to get her adopted. She was full of fleas and famine. I bathed her and spent the whole night and the following day taking fleas and ticks off of her. She started to follow me around everywhere and went and sleep on top of me at night. She is the sweetest thing ever. I spend all day playing and pampering her and she brings me so much joy. I don't have kids so she became my child. I know it sounds corny but she is teaching me love beyond myself and I can't wait to make her the happiest kitty ever.

great story.. thanks for sharing.

Wow! love it!

I recently lost my beloved cat "Havoc" . He changed my life. I see everything in a different light.
He wasn't quite 2 years old when he died--suddenly. There is another little homeless kitten on my front porch right now. Havoc's friends have visited me almost every day since he died. One in particular, snoopy came and sat with me on my patio...she was such a comfort. I got a little dog last Friday. The next day this little black kitty appeared on my porch...she or he--i'm not sure which--is not afraid of the dog. All of Havoc's friends--the kitty gang, I call them--are being rather aggressive to the little black kitten. The dog is protecting the kitten from the other cats...it's the strangest thing. I love all these cats---it was Havoc who taught me to appreciate and enjoy them.

What a heart warming story, but I am very upset that you did not show the same loving devotion that you did for the cat towards the poor fleas. They to are one of Gods creatures and I love to pick them off animals during my spare time and take them in where I show them the same love and care in my flea hostal.
Still you are a wonderful humanbeing and good luck to the both of you XXX

sounds like a match made in Heaven!
I am very happy for you both~ it is said that cats choose their owners:))

Words cant descibe the admiration for your act of kindness. For me, I finally found the answer I was searching for whenever I asked myself if I made a difference in this world.

NOTHING on earth is as humbling and beautiful as being adopted by a living, breathing, cuddly, loving, orphan - human or animal! And cats are very nearly top of my list. I felt similar to you until my Minx came to me as a three day old orphan, given to me by my beautiful Great Dane as a parting gift, 4 days before she died. She must have decided that I needed to be loved and to give love as she was already sick, although we didn't know it yet. I treasure Minx more because of this.

That's not corny at all. I adore you for posting this. I got chills all over. I grew up with dogs, live with dogs now. I don't have a favorite animal, but I love all animals. I've had quite a few cats, but every cat I've ever had has been through pure chance. All of the cats I've had have been strays that came to me that way. Your story reminds me of something very profound (to me) that I experienced. You've made me want to post my own story. I guess I will do that now. Thanks for sharing. I hope you and your little one have a happy ending.

Your story made my day! There are so many animals out there who need people like you. I have
always had cats, and couldn't imagine my life without one. They are such great company and love
you as much as you love them. I'm so happy for you both. God Bless!

I have loved cats all my life. I 'm happy you found a beautiful baby kitty to love.

Aww, how sweet!

I have two seniors 1a cat and one a dog that are very sick but my husband dosent want them put to sleep he is helping me care for them but they are so old, they dont seem to be in pain they just look awfull and have senior systoms, like a ongoing cough or no appetite. It will be hard for me to let go of them but in some way I wish they would just go to sleep, they are both over 20. i am not looking forward to the emptiness when they do pass on .

That cats adopted you because he/she could tell that you needed it. What a wonderful gift you got, it has changed your life forever! I have had many animals in my life, so have also had to go through the grief of losing them. They are forever in my heart.

!m 45 with Bipolar and I own 10 cats and would have more if my husband would let me. They are my best companionship ever. They sooth me when I am feeling anxiety. I usually have three on my lap at a time. I think everyone should own a cat.

Such a great story! You are entering a new realm, a brand new world of experiences you will definitely want to share with others.
Cats are wonderful creatures, but it takes a very special human nature to appreciate them fully. Controlling-type personalities don't often do well with felines.

Heheh. Great story. I've found in most cases people who don't like cats usually haven't had one before.

i love cats, too. my cat is the sweetest thing ever, and if anything were to ever happen to him, i would die!

We have 8 cats all feral cats(not used to humans and born outside) except for 2 Rocky and Reggie who chase our other cats they are only 6 months old. We have a cat house on our porch and a mother cat and her kittens live there, on the side of our house there is another box where a possium lives. We have several cats outside we feed, and the for 14 years we travel 10 miles to feed to other groups of feral cats. My daughter is grown. I have even taught my 6 year old grand daughter how to call the cats to come to eat when we arrive.. My daughter has 5 cats her recent cat lived to be 18 and a half, she got him when she had her first apartment now she is married with 2 kids and 5 cats, 1 dog and a wonderful husband. At 4 o'clock in the middle on the morning I get a gentle licking on my nose each morning by Reggie or Rocky. We had two cats that lived to be 16 years old each I sure do miss them. However, we have a lot of fun watching Rocky and Reggie run at each other and collide in mid air and do a summersalt in mid air..Or when I took one cat in to the vet I looked at the cage and realized I had two cats not one in the cage Reggie had to join Rocky!! I sure was surprised and so was the Vet, he thought I was bringing in one cat and I had two!! We did have a dog and he got along great with the cats, he even played tag with our old cat and the Thor would sit in his paws when Harry was lying down on the floor Thor would just cuddle up with him, it was funny as Harry would wine and look up at me as to say "what do I do with this cat" then later he would try to play with the cat but Harry had huge paw and Thor would run from him they played a lot. I sure miss MY Harry dog!!

I have had both children and cats in my life and if I had it to do over again I would only have had cats.I gave everything(both financial and emotional) and the kids only gave grief in return. My cats have always shown unconditional love and appreciation. It is however truly terrible to lose one asI did about a month ago,I've taken few funerals as hard.

i love cats very much!listening to your story,i have undesstanded one thing both animals were need our care.

I also though that I would never own a cat as a pet untill the lady that woas rooming with me move out. When she found out that she could not have a pet where she moved to she said to me that she would have to fine Sweetpea a new home I said why when she has a good home here. That is how I came to own Sweetpea as a pet. That was fifthteen years ago and she is somch fun and in the morning when it time for me to feed her she lets me know that it is time for me to get up in the morning.

God bless you and your baby. I wish you both long and happy lives. Keep up the good work!!!!!

My story is very similar to yours. I never knew much about cats because I had only had one when I was very young. I brought home my kitty one day last year when a friend told me (on impulse) to pick it up in a parking lot and we had nowhere to take her. She's now a part of my family. Cats really can change your life.

I have a white cat who is totally deaf he was living in my neighbors garage so i decided to catch him and i did. One day not knowing any thing about cats i took him for a ride down to the lake which is 2 miles from home. I let him out and he ran away and hid in a small cave. I waited all day and he never came out so i went home.To make a long story short he came home 3 days later and has been my best friend ever after

OMG soooooo cute! :)

I love your story. My first cat found me in my college cafeteria when he was about 3 weeks old. Another student had found him but couldn't keep him, so I fed him, carried him around with me, got rid of his parasites and goopy eyes, and wound up being his special person until he died at age 18 1/2. I still miss him.

i have two cats , or i shoud say they have me. both are independent and run all over the house. no matter if i have a good day or a messed up day, i go home and they are both there waiting to play and of course waiting to have food put out for them. you cannot help but feel better when there up to see you when you get home. saphire and topaze , just two crazy cats .
