Straight No Chaser

I usually love this time of year, but 2012 has been an especially difficult year for me, so I'm just ready for 2013 to take over. I haven't exactly been in my typical, festive holiday mood; however, listening to Straight No Chaser helps get me there. I saw them in concert last year, and they were fantastic, performing to a sold-out house.

I especially love the group's story. If you're not familiar with them, they're a professional a cappella group. They formed as friends in 1996 at Indiana University. In 2006, a 1998 video of "The 12 Days of Christmas," gained widespread popularity and subsequently led to a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records. The video has been viewed over 15 million times on YouTube.

Although I like their secular songs, I especially love their holiday music. Below are three of my favorites. Hope you enjoy!

      Well, I do love Dino. I also have Christmas with the Rat Pack on my playlist. It's a Marshmallow World with Dino and Frank is a favorite, especially since they crack up during it.

    Are you a professional writer LLLD3? I certainly get that impression from reading just a couple of your stories! It's two days before Christmas, and I'm missing the beautiful lighted displays of decorations in the pine trees of my old home near Aspen Park/Conifer. Sure, there are plenty of great areas here near Quebec and Alameda, but it's not the same. Still, I'll take it over any other part of the country!

      Ah, a fellow Denverite. Nice to "meet" you. I am not a professional writer, no, but thank you for the compliment. A friend who is a professional writer might cringe at your comment, but I like it. :) I also agree we live in an exceptional part of the world, quite beautiful with snow forecasted for tomorrow and Tuesday. Hope we truly get a White Christmas!

    this is a fun song! it gets me in a good mood. I'm with you though about just getting to 2013. it has gotta be better

      Glad you liked the song. Which one was it? Yes, bring on 2013! 13 has always been a lucky number for me, and I prefer odd numbers too, so it has to be good! :)

      the 12 days one is fun, it's the only one i know i hear it on the radio this time of year and the first time was on Pandora last christmas. Merry Christmas and bring on the new year

    As an infrequent youtuber, I wasn't previously acquainted with this group, so thank you for the links. I have, however, long been a fan of good a cappella music. A very talented group (I wish I could remember their name) from Princeton performed at a party I was attending several years ago. I've been a fan of the genre ever since.

      Yes, those who can do a cappella well are amazing. There's a local group from Boulder called Face, and they're quite good, too. I think to be great the group needs to have at least one fantastic bass and an outstanding percussionist. I watched a few episodes of The Sing Off, a reality show for a cappella groups. I don't watch reality TV as a general rule, but that show was entertaining.
