I'm About As Knowledgeable About Classical Music As A Rock.

I'm very easily distracted, so music helps me focus by eliminating all the background noises. But when I'm trying to read or write, lyrics become very distracting too, sometimes even causing me to write lines from songs into whatever I'm writing. So when I'm doing homework that requires reading or writing, I listen to classical music on Pandora or on my Itunes. I know Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart, but can't identify their music, and I can't think of any other classical composers' names or music. I'm curious....can I call myself a fan of classical if I can't even identify one song's name or who composed it? I love listening to it, I just don't know much at all about it, and I guess I'm too lazy or whatever to learn.

yeah, I was exaggerating a little. Like oceanspirit1 said, there's a bunch that I can recognize the music and know within a few second of hearing it that it's one I like, but I don't know their names or composers.
Maddog and Troubleshooter, I guess my problem with not knowing who does what is mostly that I just don't try to learn. When I have it playing on Pandora or Itunes, I don't look to see who's playing the song, I just kinda half-listen as I work. I'm not very musical at all, so I never learned much about actually making music. I look at sheet music and know that the notes on the top line are higher-pitched than the ones on the bottom, and that's about as far as that knowledge goes. lol
navyintelcheif, I agree, it's great to listen to anytime. But when I'm not doing work, I like the more club/party/dance songs I can sing (horribly) along to and dance if I feel like it. lol

when I was at school I had a teacher who whenever he was playing some (classical) music would give us a test and say "What composer is that?" I thought he was being a bit snobby but after I while I came to be able to recognise the different composers fairly well. I did study music a bit though.
I'd say if you listen to it you're definitely a fan.
