Any Batman from the 90's, especially the Robin and Oracle stuff. Anything by Chuck Dixon or Peter David. JSA, Young Justice/Teen Titans. Can't think of anything current to recommend. Only thing current that I'm really enjoying are the Sonic comics.

Have you read Civil War? It's done by Mark Millar, the same guy who did "Red Son" and I loved it, so I'm hoping this Civil War will be just as good. It's got Iron Man, Captain America, and Spidey.

So the movie's out today. Y'gonna go see it? Or at least when the crowd dies down.

And yeah, I don't like how they're going for that dark, edgy feeling. It's all batman's fault ala The Dark Knight! As the Joker said, "You've changed things...forever" lol. I hope every superhero movie that comes out doesn't try to do the whole "serious, dark" feeling thing. But I think I'll still check this movie out...if the ratings are good enough. And Emma Stone's in it. Can't go wrong there :)

Can't go wrong with Watchmen. It was written by Alan Moore. Same guy who wrote V for Vendetta. I think this graphic novel is the only graphic novel that was listed on Time's greatest novels of all time or something. You said you wanted an adult comic, so there ya go.

And now I have a question for you. You like the spider-man comics right, so I was just wondering, was Peter Parker always a dork? Like in the movies (Sam Raimi). Because I'm reading from a lot of pissed off fanboys saying how Tobey Maguire played the part all wrong. Like, he was supposed to be edgier and wasn't supposed to be a dork. I don't know. I liked Tobey's performance and I think Spider-man 2 is my favourite comic book movie. I thought he was supposed to be "friendly neighbourhood." Oh, and have you read Spider-man Reign?

In the (original) comics he was portrayed as a dork. He didn't appear as 'edgy' in the original comics, but probably more in the modern comic-world he was made to be more edgy/serious, which I think is an insult to what he was originally supposed to be.
In the originals he was intelligent, quiet, added/fixed what he needed to his spidey-suit (such as the webbing and etc), he seemed a tiny bit bitter (in my opinion) but that's because he was picked on by other students and wished he could show them just how tough he could be, etc.

Maybe people have read more of the modern comics or looked too seriously at the originals--I thought Tobey Maguire was great as Peter Parker. In fact, though I haven't seen the remake yet and I am not judging it until I see the movie, but I personally think the new Peter/Spider-Man is totally unlike the character: he seems more dark, brooding, dramatic, jokes are too smart-@ss.

And nope, I haven't read Spider-Man Reign. I'm planning on reading Watchmen soon, actually. :]

For X-Men, Avengers, or Iron Man, I suggest finding collections, like the Marvel Masterworks series or Essential books, that usually give you an idea from the beginning. I'd start with the first volume to get the gist of how the story started. After, you've got a few different options. For X-Men, I would suggest finding something that collects Giant-Sized X-Men #1 and the handful of Uncanny X-Men issues that followed it in the mid-70s. I would also suggest Chris Claremont and Jim Lee's early 90s X-Men series and Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men series from about 2005, I believe. All have been collected. Avengers stuff, I'm not as familiar with. I'm more familiar with more recent stuff, like Avengers: Disassembled and New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch and Civil War by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. For Iron Man, check out Demon In A Bottle, Extremis, and The Five Nightmares. I hope that helps and feel free to send me a personal message if you need help finding anything or have any questions. =)
