A Real Anime Gem...

I first encountered Death Note when a friend gave me a few scanlations of the manga - long before there was any word of the anime or live-action versions.  And I was absolutely blown away by it.

It has such a deep and convoluted storyline, and the moral ideas it puts forward are brilliantly executed.  I was surprised to find that I sympathized tremendously with Light's cause.  It's hard to explain, as his methods are inherently twisted and I do not agree with them at all, but some of his goals are really admirable.  However, I also love L and all his eccentricities.

For me, the shinigami really make the series.  I'm very fond of Ryuk (as I sit here, I have my Ryuk and Rem gashapon figures and Ryuk plushie within arm's reach) and his obsession with apples.  All in all, it's such a dark and clever series that I think it's impossible not to like it.
