There's No Beverage Like A Great Wine..The one wine that launched me on this wine journey for life was a bottle of red Burgundy. The 2000 La Tache from Domaine de la Romanee Conti. It absolutely possessed me. Liquid silk. Spiced and meaty aromatics. Tension and Balance. Character and Personality. The damp crumbly soil of Vosne Romanee with all its spice and mineral, shining in the glass of ripe fruit with gentle tannin and soft acidity, like a tight bodied ballerina spinning on my palate. Remarkable depth and complexity that evolved with each twirl, with each hour that passed. The last swallow was the finest.
Nothing i ever drank prior tasted so good. Few wines after have either.
Years later, every time I pop a Burgundy I still recall that night, at my friend's restaurant, with good friends who had no idea how special wine could be, when they just said "wow"...."wow".
When wine is good, and the setting is quiet, I try to imagine the soil, the vines, the grapes, the sun, the rain. I think that I am drinking in the land and labor of a specific patch of earth. I feel privileged to share joy with whom I am blessed to be with as we share this moment of bliss.
Now i'm thirsty again.
