I Went to Farmer's Market For the First Time

I t was my first time going to the farmer's market yesterday, and I was excited. I had heard good and bad things about it, but I wanted to see for myself. I had heard that the produce was exceptionally good, I had heard that it was a place where the fruits and veggies got overlooked and people went there to get drunk and party. I had heard that the fruits and veggies were extremely expensive. But I was curious. And even though I am pretty much broke, I would like to support local farmers, even if there aren't very many of them around here.

I did notice that there were tons of more hot food vendors than fruit and veggie stands - at least double the amount if not more than double. When I made it down to the end where the good stuff was, I was kind of disappointed in the lack of variety, and there were only 5 or 6 stalls there. The stalls were being worked by people of all ages, which was cool. I walked up and down the stalls several times, undecided. I was almost ready to give up and go home without buying anything, when I saw a sign that said "Ambrosia Melons, 3.00 or 2 for 5.00" and I stopped to ask what an ambrosia melon is. The girl, in her teens, said it was a cross between a cantaloupe and a honeydew, and gave me a sample. It was delicious! So I bought one.

It was huge, looking mostly like a cantaloupe, but a tiny bit smoother, and about a quarter to a third bigger, and I carried it to my car where I had parked in the garage not far away. I was nervous that it wasn't going to be as good as the one that I had tasted, but when I got home I decided I was going to cut it up right then. It was absolutely divine! The flavor is like a smoother slightly sweeter cantaloupe, and it practically melts in your mouth.

I would recommend farmer's market to anyone!
