Summer Gardens

I like to garden. Each year I plant something else. I have flowers planted in the front and back yards. My flowers are seasonal, some come up in spring and others in fall. I also like to garden vegetables. I have heirloom tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, melons and berries. Gardening makes me think of my Dad. He died in 2003 and when I garden, I do it in memory of him.

My sympathies to you for your loss. I learned to garden on my own and grow great bell peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes and plenty of other items. However, your other stories mention flowers inside, I've never gotten the hang of that, I usually kill them in short order.

I think that is where I get my love for gardening. My dad made me work with him when I was young. He got me hook on Calla lilies and cana lilies. Today I still have his original bulbs which I have to dig up every fall and store them in the basement. It's a lot of work but worth it. Today I have about a 1/2 dozen blossoming. Today dad has dementia and I visit him every week. I try to talk about his veggie garden and the flowers. This week I reminded him about the calla lilies. HGe just smile and didn't say a thing. It so sad to see him this way.
