Butterfly Gardening In Two Ways.

I used to butterfly garden by planting butterfly bush and wildflowers and other annuals to attract bees and butterflies.  I also raised fennel and dill so that I would attract Black Swallowtail Butterflies to my yard.  During the summer I enjoyed an occasional taste of the herbs, but I loved watching the caterpillars feed, grow and finally pupate on the stems of the plants.

I several times have had to buy fennel to keep up with the caterpillars! They are nothing but eating machines in this stage of their lives.

Yes! Those caterpillars love fennel.<br />
I had so many bees on my lamb's ear last year. I had to move them further from the house !

I think that that is a super thing to do!

Last summer by my patch of parsley, I found a black swallowtail caterpillar. The color has a parakeet lime green, very colorful for a insect. Every year I like to grow an assortment of flowers and herbs to look at all the butterflies and bees pollinate my garden beds.
