I Love Getting Wet In The Rain
Anyone from here living In my area will remember this date for a Loooooong time.
A day I normally would not have off work. But a managers meeting changed my schedule. And later that day the small schedule change was a blessing. No it's not the fact I could walk in the rain. But ill start from the morning.
I got up hearing the sound of rain. No thunder / lightning. I checked the weather map online and saw a huge patch of heavy rain in my area. So Out I went Down to the park. The rain was so heavy i was soaked before I got to the end of my street. After a 10 min walk I got to the park. To get to this park I have to cross a main road that leaves out of town. I must have spent close to 2 hrs at the park and the rain was still coming down as heavy as it was when I started. Some of the paths that I normally take were up above my ankles in water. I actually got to use a new toy I have purchased just a few months before. A water proof digital camera. Video record sucked but it took nice pictures. I think I had a few spectators who would stop their cars in the school parking lot that's next to the park. After I started to get cold I made the trip home. Crossing the main road Kinda looked odd with huge puddles I have never seen before even in this heavy rain. Once home I got a hot shower to warm up still clothed. Feeling that I had enough for the day I changed into some dry clothes. Not knowing that they would get a drenching later.
I got a phone call from my sister. "please check out the bridge down the street" So I was back out in the rain and the water proof camera came in real good use then. I look down the street and I cannot see the bridge that I take every morning for work that was in the process of getting replaced. All I see is a huge raging river where a construction site / temporary bridge used to be. The only things that were still there was the 2 huge backhoes that they had sitting at the end of the bridge. You could only see the top of the huge arm on them. Everything else was gone. The business next to the bridge lost all of it's top soil and mulch that it was trying to sell. So I ran back to the park and the main road that I had crossed to get there was gone It was all water. Back at the park. The one path I had taken that was up to my ankles was now under close to 10 feet of water. Knowing what happen to ppl in these types of situations I did not get in it. If I had I would not be here today. So after getting lots of pictures and yet another set of clothing drenched I want back home for yet another dry off and hanging the wet stuff to dry in the bathroom.
Checking the weather map again I could not believe what I saw. It looked the same then as it did 8 hrs earlier this thing was not moving at all.
By now it's getting close to dinner time and I had forgotten to get something at the store the night before. With the bridge under water I could not go the the store on my end of town. Not having a car I had to walk to the other side of town for the other store that's there. By now the rain finally had tapered off to a light mist so I started walking down to the store. Not more than half way there it was as if someone had taken a 5 gallon bucket of water and dumped it over my head. The heavy rain was back. Since at the point of no return I continued down to the store where I rung my soaking shirt out before I entered. In side I found out that I was not the only one who got stuck walking to the store. About 3 - 4 other people walking around as drenched as I was. I bought my stuff and walked back home. Once home I had to once again take off soaking wet clothing and hang them and dry off.
The next morning I get a ride into work having to take a detour around the creek that is still a raging river. The first thing I went for was the news paper. Head line on the top of the page read. "Tropical storm lee stalls"
