Manikan Man

Why do manikins scare us so easily? What is it about their faceless, pale complexions that strike such a deep cord of fear within our hearts?

Think about the scariest being you can imagine, does it have a face? Does it have those twisted black and red eyes? Does it tower over you when you stand, and appear to be made of nothing more than sticks and timber?

With skin so pale, stretched liked canvas over a frame...

It's so easy to force from your mind the figments of your childhood.

So easy until you realize that they weren't figments.

We've all seen "him." A being so very unlike any other that "his" very essence is scarred within our minds.

No, I'm not talking of the slender man, he isn't real... I'm talking about that thing you refuse to name. That terrible creature your mind told you didn't exist, the lies you told yourself to forget it's horribly mangled gaze.

Every night, you had your parents check your closet for "him." Check your bed, and even the attic should you feel so uneasy.

Never once did they see... They couldn't. How can you convince someone who refuses to see what they've made invisible? Forced from their minds at a young age by the promise of a false reality.

But you know better, don't you?

You can remember how "he" would come as you slept. The night light making "him" invisible... Making "him" powerless. But you could feel "him." Ever present as you slumbered, staring into your closed eyes. Waiting for you to wake... Waiting for you to see...

You can still see "him," from the corner of your eye. Constantly watching, waiting for you to remember, to see him as he truly is. Not a ghost, or a child's story, but something your mind chooses to make invisible...

He's always here... The light, his only weakness... The only thing saving you now...

Without the light, he is real.

This was the reason that when you were young, you would sprint to your bed as quietly as possible once you had turned the lights out. Because "he" would catch you if you didn't... Always one step behind you... Always reaching for you...

Always just out of reach...

That's why you still do so, every now and again... Because "he" is watching, standing silently in the darkness, in the far reaches of your mind. Waiting for the day to be real to you once again...

Waiting for you to feel "his" presence...

Open your thoughts, your inner most workings... You know "he" is here. "He" is that terrible feeling you now have, knowing that "his" gaze is on you again. That "he" can now see you... And soon, "he" will start touching you again...

It is "he" that gives you that feeling of someone being behind you...

Perhaps looking back is a bad idea...
