Because Silence Is Deafening

I have to sleep with my fan on because I just can't stand silence. I hate all the little noises you pick up when it's silent-- like a car driving by outside, a dog barking, the wind blowing against the house. SO ANNOYING!!! The gentle white noise from my fan is steady, constant, always the same lulling sound, and the air is soothing too. I have a small fan that I actually keep in bed right next to my ear. It drowns everything out and it comes in particularly handy when I'm having an overnight guest who snores. I even take it with me when I travel. I wouldn't be able to sleep without it.

I need something like that. I love the gentle white noise as you put it (beautiful). It lulls me into sleep. I've also found that beach sounds are good to sleep to. I have a beach sounds CD that I like to put on.
My partner has a 'birds of the rainforest' CD that he likes to listen to but it drives me mental. It's all birds randomly clunking around, and frogs and insects. Its basically a CD of all the noises that make me uncomfortable when I sleep HAHA!
