Once Upon A Novel...

I wonder if many people these days have read the Anne of Green Gables series. I happened to grab one of the books one day after study hall because the title reminded me of a TV series I had watched on the Hallmark channel as a child. Well, I read it and somehow wound up reading through the entire series. I was fascinated by a world that was so different from my own. From there I moved on to Louisa May Alcott's Little Women series where I cried because Jo didn't end up with Laurie. While searching out the other books in the series I found Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. And there what began as coincidence became an addiction to regency and other historical romance novels spanning half a decade.^^ At the time, the feeling of being completely engrossed in a story was so new to me. It was moving and thrilling and maddening and everything. Sadly, I realized that my interests were more in line with those of previous generations than with people my own age. I don't regret it though because I feel as though I were able to live and see through another perspective through those novels. I've learned and felt much through them. Though, I think I've been ruined by them because somehow real people can't seem to live up to the characters in books. TT
