Long Lost Friend

I loved skating more than anything else in the world when I was a kid and took skating lessons for awhile. I really took to it quickly too. Later on when I wasn't ice skating anymore I was roller skating and then inline skating. A lot of time had passed since I'd done any skating at all and in that time I piled on weight and just got too old. I hadn't ice skated for 16 years! After watching the Olympics and missing skating so much it hurt, I decided I just didn't care if anyone thought I was too fat or too old to skate and I went ice skating last night and had a great time. I was a little afraid that I wouldn't know how to skate anymore since it'd been so long, and while I'm certainly unable to do most of the stuff I used to be able to do, I was very relieved that I could still skate forwards and backwards competently. Now I'm hooked again and can't wait until the next time I get to go skating. Yeah! The problem is that all the ice rinks where I live close in March and don't reopen until September. I'd love to take lessons again, but I guess that'll be on hold until fall unless I find a year round rink. I can't tell you how awesome it felt to get back out onto the ice. It was like running into a dear friend that you've lost touch with and finding out you still have tons of things to talk about.
