WHAT DOES "CHUTZPAH" MEAN?
Chutzpah is a Yiddish word meaning gall, brazen nerve, effrontery, sheer guts plus arrogance; it’s Yiddish and, as Leo Rosen writes,
“no other word, and no other language,” can do it justice.
This example is better than 1,000 words .
THE ESSENCE OF CHUTZPAH
A little old lady sold pretzels on a street corner for 25 cents each. Every day a young man would leave his office building at lunch time, and as he passed the pretzel stand, he would leave her a quarter, but never take a pretzel.
And this went on for more than 4 years. The two of them never spoke. One day, as the young man passed the old lady's stand and left his quarter as usual, the pretzel lady spoke to him.
"Sir, thank you for your business. You are a good customer, but I have to tell you that the pretzel price has gone up to 35 cents."

I used to have such a large Yiddish vocabulary when I lived downstate...what has always amazed me is how these words sound...they so often sound like their definitions...thanks for the laugh Coyote...it's been a while since I've heard a story like this.:) -

Perfect! lol-- There is a homeless man who camps at a nearby creek with his dog... when the weather gets cold - we don't see him 'til Spring...My son and I were on our way into the store the other day --we stopped and complimented him on his handsome dog....as we were driving out of the parking lot--we saw him standing by the street with a sign:'PLEASE GIVE MONEY FOR DOG FOOD!" LOL! Of course, we gave him some money.

When you got nothing you've got nothing to lose!

And there's always more - no matter how much you have.

Chutzpah is also defined by the girl who murdered both her parents then asked the judge to take pity on a poor orphan.
