Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream
Mochi Ice Cream is one of my all time favorite desserts, especially those made with green tea ice cream.
It is essentially sticky rice pounded into thin sheets known as, "mochi," then wrapped around ice cream. To me, a well-made mochi ice cream dessert has a thin layer of mochi surrounding the ice cream; a layer just thick enough to hold the ice cream, but not too thick as to take away from the flavorful ice cream center. So what I have is a thin sheet of sticky rice that's only slightly sweet to tease the taste buds. Then, as I bite into it, I get the rich, creamy ice cream bursting into my mouth with flavor. It's amazing because the mochi contrasts well with the ice cream; the mochi is light, warmer and chewy, while the ice cream is rich, cool and melts in the mouth. It is an awesome confection!
