My Passion For Music

I was basicly born in a music shop. How cool is that? Not your ordinary music shop either. Instruments that are from various nations like: India, Africa, South America, China, Brazil, Turkey, Egypt.
I was at the age of 4 or 5 when I started on the piano, thats when my sister had already started. I can't remember why but i stopped then went on to learn the violin ( The screeching aaaaaaahhhh) I can't really say that I enjoyed the violin.

At the age of 7 years old, I started to learn a very unusual instrument called a HAMMER DULCIMER or YANG QIN ( mandarin Chinese name ).
It took me at least 4 years practising almost everyday for 1 - 2 hours per day just to learn the basics: Hand and eye co-ordination, power in the wrist's.

The Yang Qin comes in 3 or even 4 different sizes but the most common size and the one that I currently play is the model with 4 bridges.
It has well over one hundred strings with different string gauges.

The only crap thing I can say about playing this instrument is that its a nightmare to carry to gigs because of the odd shape and weight especially the chinese hammer dulcimer (Yang Qin). Tuning wise it sounds beautiful when tuned properly, it can take a novice forever to tune and I've perfected that skill as a child.
I wished that I had learnt to site read when I had the chance. I mainly play my Yang Qin by ear and heart, because thats where music comes from, within.

What kind of instrument do you play or have played in the past?

i only play the guitar.

Cool I wish I could play the guitar myself. Did you have lessons or were you self taught? Oh by the way if you wanna know more about the Hammer Dulcimer or Yang Qin, Youtube it. You can find some amazing videos on it.

self taught, never had formal lessons. yeah sure. i never heard of it before.

Hi, i just recently joined this site to hopefully make some friends and for fun. Sooo whats your most favourate song and why? As for me, please don't laugh, Mariah Carey song is - Hero. She has such a beautiful voice. But i guess i have wide range of taste as i listen to quite a lot of different types of music depending on my mood too.

Im thinking of putting a video of me playing my instrument on youtube, or on my own EP page, haven't worked out how to yet, but im gonna try again.
