For About 39 Out Of 40 Years: A Railfan Working As A Railroader

I was a railroader. That was my career. Nine years as a towerman (see a different story  http://www.experienceproject.com/uw.php?e=1093071   if you need to know) and 31 years as a computer programmer. All except the last year were really great, fun, enjoyable. And i felt my pay was good.

As a towerman and a young rail fan at that, I was really doing my dream job. And i believed I was good even though I was "investigated" three times and judged guilty all three (but lost no time or money so I can say now: LOL)

After I got promoted it was just as good - or maybe even better. I worked in Assembler for a lot of the time. a macho language (yes, there were females doing it too). I loved my job.

Only the last year, when I felt the technology was passing me by and physical problems made moving around uncomfortable did I loose that "I love my job" feeling.
