My first friend, and his three siblings, moved after 3rd or 4th grade,I believe, because his parents divorced. Moved a county or two away. This was in the 70s. We both graduated from high school on the same day, sadly. Haven't seen him in--15 20 ? years ? AT LEAST ! he now lives in South Carolina with his family(or,at least his wife.) My best friend after him died more than 20 yrs. after we left high school. The next one lives in Texas. His first born (he's now twice divorced--two sons--both from the second ex). His first son, thanks to mom and dad,has my first name as his middle name ! The GREATEST thing that HAS EVER happened to me,since my health and life has been a life long struggle.

I like this because that is what mommies are for and that's what my mother did for me when this happened (actually WE were the ones that were moving and I was leaving my best friend, who also cried.) My mother is the best :) You're a pretty great one too, and I bet your son thinks that too ;)

A timeless problem. Change and loss are part of living. The good thing is that there are more opportunities for kids to stay connected through email, Skype ethanghan ever before.

What a great mum you are!

Aw, Des, I sooooo feel for your little boy!! As a child I was on the other end - moved every year or so changing schools since my dad was in the Navy and we moved around frequently - it was rough and I missed my friends terribly.

Your boy is lucky he has a mom like you. You may not see it it right now, but from someone who has been there, your comfort of your child will go a long way to helping him understand life changes and it takes the familiar away from us and brings us new experiences to help us grow.

I know he'll be ok with a caring mom like you to help him though life's up's and down's. :-)

That would be so hard! Thanks, V... he keeps coming to me for hugs every other minute, and I love that he knows he can get comfort and understanding if he needs it.

Love hurts, even when you are a small boy.

Will his friend still be close enough to play with?

No, but he isn't now, either. They just hung out at school.
