Sonnet XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:

Where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

- Pablo Neruda

This poem is now my new favourite poem :")!
Thank you for sharing it!

I'm happy you enjoyed it!

Ok, now I have to post it :D...lol

George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788-1824)
She Walks in Beauty

1
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
2
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
3
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Isn't that just sooo romantic *sighs* and sweeeet :D?!

You need to post this and share it with others! It's beautiful!

So glad you like it!
It's so precious.
You can just sense the deep love and adoration and awe that she instills in her beloved:)

Oh this is so beautiful and sublime :D

Made me think of Will's 'Shall I compare thee to a summer's day' and
Very much more, 'She Walks in Beauty by Byron.
