How Bruno Changed My Life

   One of my independent studies students came into class one day after school. He told me about his new puppy, and was sad because he couldn’t keep him and had to find him a new home. He asked me if I wanted to see him. When he turned the corner with this little ball of white fur in his arms, my heart melted. I said, “That’s my dog.” I love dos in general, but Bruno was special.    I took him home about a week later, and snc then my life has radically changed. I am home more, and when I am not at home, I am thinking about how he is doing. I love spending time with him. Bruno makes me laugh, and he is so sweet. He loves people and dogs alike. He has been in obedience class since he was 10 weeks old, and now, at 6 months, he is a different dog! I learned to really look at him and act accordingly. I learned patience and that puppy behaviors will pass. And then, there are the comands! He picks up on new tasks so quickly! He is still in the frisky puppy stage, but still, he has brought me so much joy. I am thinking seriously about getting Bruno trained as a therapy dog. He has the most beautiful face, and a disposition to match. I can’t say enough about my boy.    Obedience training has also made me less confrontational with those people I meet who categorically don’t like pit bulls. They make ignorant statements without bothering to look at my dog, and now, I am able to respond calmly and point out Bruno’s assets, as well as the assets of the breed. When he turns 2 and is fully trained, I think I will get another dog. When Bruno was a baby, I thought I might get a different breed, but the more time we spend together, the more I think I am a pit bull mommy. So love on your pits, because they will give it right back to you, and then some!
