The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Yes, I know this was a song, but the song lyrics read like a beautiful poem. So I decided to add it to this ep group. I found out that this song was written as a love poem/song in 1957 by a British singer named Ewan MacColl for his lover, Peggy Seeger.

The lyrics are deeply passionate and moving. It fascinates me to think about how much he must have loved her.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Ewan MacColl

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the end of the skies

And the first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last, till the end of time, my love

The first time ever I saw your face
Your face
Your face
Your face...

Below is the song as performed by Roberta Flack. Her version was a hit in the early 70's and was included in the Clint Eastwood movie, "Play Misty For Me".

Thanks for posting this, I never really listened to the words till now, truely touching :)

so desc<x>riptive and beautiful

so beautiful. makes my heart hurt. wishing someone loved me like that; wishing i had someone to love like that

There is - you. If you could love yourself like that then loving someone else like that would be easy. Love yourself (not your neighbor) and then all will be all right. If someone joins you then it would be double great, but otherwise you will become a big giver. Love - flow in love and let it lead you on.

I love the song reminds me of my beautiful angel the lyrics are so meaningful xxx

i have always loved this beauiful song, and Roberta's was the best version..the lyrics are poetic and lovely!

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever... :)

Most songs are poems and this one qualifies pretty well to be posted in this group.

Awesome as a song or a poem.
