Pumpkin Pie Funny Story.....hehehaha

When I was a preschool teacher many years ago we had a baking project. Now my students were 3yrs of age. It was a hand on event. My students just love making things with their hands.

I would have each student take turns and scoop out the pumpkin from a can. Then pour the can milk into the mix. Cracked the eggs. (that was interesting) We did this with all of the ingredients. Each of them would take turns in mixing it all together as well.

Now if you can imagine ten 3 yrs old anxiously waiting to put together this pumpkin pie. It was very noisy because they wanted to get it done now. Their attention span was about 15mins or so. With all kinds of interruptions ( Susie had to go to the bathroom, Billy was trying to lick the spoon etc..) It made it even more interesting to make the pie. I was determine to get this pie made and put it into the oven to bake.

We did use already made crust. It was a good thing. I did not want to press my luck. That would of been another all day project. :-)

So while we were waiting for the pie to bake, I read them a story and carried on with our class activities. This worked really well. Matter of fact, too well, that I forgot to turn the temperature down until I could smell it. Yup, I almost burned it. Got to it in the neck of time. Then I continue to let it bake.

So after all of the activities were finished, the pie was done. Now it was coming to the best part. We can eat it after it cooled down of course.

My students were so excited that it was time to eat our pumpkin pie. After I dished it up and placed whip cream on every one. We tasted it.

If you could of seen all the little faces you wonder what was going on? I took a bite and said that something was missing. Oh my, then we had a guessing game. One of my students said that it wasn't pumpkin pie. Then what was it?

It turned out we forgot one of the main ingredients. It was plain and not sweet. We forgot the sugar! With all the noise and commotion that went on in trying to put it together some how the sugar was no where in site.

So everyone who was involved in this event started to laugh. It was an all day project with the hustle and bustle to make just a simple pumpkin pie. Then we had to put lots of whip cream to make it more enjoyable to eat.

I will never forget their little faces trying to cover up how it taste. But I will tell you, they were a proud group of preschoolers who made their first pumpkin pie even if it didn't have any sugar. We talked about it for months.

My coworkers would tease me about our sugar free pumpkin pie.

To this day. I make one pumpkin pie without sugar for my husband. He likes it that way. It figures, huh.... LOL

Thanks for reminding me of those cute dances !!

I will certainly be doing them, that's for sure.

I can only imagine a childs face who has bitten into a pie that has no sugar. And a childs face is so open and honest. My mom does projects like this whenever a new child comes over for the holidays. She loves how her kitchen looks afterwords. It reminds her of when we were small kids.

Great story.

I hope you feel better soon!! Yes indeed you want to be totally healthy cuz you will need a LOT of strength to be around all those babies!!!
Im so jealous now when I think about the 2 year olds. I loved them... except for bathroom time. Once one child say I have to go potty then it starts a chain reaction and they ALL have to go potty!! :D

I love children and that age is a lot of fun.

So.........what the heck, I don't have grandchildren right now. It will be my entertainment. lol

Ask me in a few months to see just how much fun I am having. lol

too funny!!
makes me think of my days as a preschool teacher and all of the cooking, crafts, games... fun times!! I taught 2 year olds all the way up to pre-k. My favorite I think was the 4 year old class!!
Now I work at a elementary school that goes from preK to 8th grade!
:D
thanks for sharing!! brought back fond memories to me!!!!

Pumpkin pie is pretty easy to make. The recipe is on the back of the can.

Hey, if I can do it with preschoolers, anyone can make it. Just don't forget the sugar. LOL

I usually put half of the sugar then what the recipe says. Who needs all that sugar anyways.

Good luck to you in making it.
