I Love Rock Music
There was a point in time in which I listened only to rap music. I grew up in Newark, NJ and thus I was expected to maintain a steady knowledge of urban styles of music. This was all before I decided to stop conforming and simply being afraid of expressing my internal expression and sense of self. First rock songs I really got into were back in 2006 I believe; Six feet from the edge by Creed and especially Dream On by Aerosmith. After that it was a climb on the Stairway to Heaven. Eventually, I began getting more and more into classic rock. Led Zeppelin is my favorite, hands down of that genre. I started off from Aerosmith and discovered so much SPLENDID music that the world never showed me before and had I not moved around so much than chances are that my staying in Newark would have given me a limited view on what was really there for me to listen to. Ozzy, Sabbath, Scorpions, Metallica, Hendrix, Satriani, Eric Johnson, Eagles, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Ac Dc, Pantera, Pink Floyd, Queen, Slayer, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden, The Wings. The list goes on and I keep discovering more great songs that simply speak to my soul. I began to become more immersed in the genre, and soon discovered that the genre and all its alternate categories were certainly my calling. From that point on and even during that musical transition I gained knowledge of a lot of Post modern styles and artists and discovered so much greatness that I couldnt believe that such beauty existed in the world of music until I got there. The Foo Fighters, Green Day, Tool, Paramore, System of a Down, Slipknot, Bullet flr my Valentine, Rise, Against, Panic at the Disco, Avenged Sevenfold, Nirvana, The Pillows, Marcy Playground. I found so many great songs and in comparison the only thing coming close to the greatness was a lot of 80's to 90's rap music. That stuff was gold. What I listen to simply crushes most modern rap in quality, lasting power, and simple feel. The music I listen to has a soul. I can feel the heart in the music and it seems like I constantly find a good rock song I may pssibly fall in love with. The first time I heard Stairway to Heaven's solo I almost died and didnt stop listening for weeks. And soon the entire song became something important to me. Certain Songs however just make my heart go into overdrive as staple favorites:
Everlong - Foo FIghters
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Time - Pink Floyd
Dream On - Aerosmith
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Band on the Run - The Wings
Hotel California - The Eagles
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Crazy Train - Ozzy
Audience of One - Rise Against
Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson
Satch Boogie - Joe Satriani
Far Beyond the Sun - Yngwie Malmsteem
Somehow, each of these songs simply speak to my heart and connect to me on a level that I feel as though music is simply supposed to. :) <3
