How I Started
My keenness for running started when I was about 11. Before that I was not a naturally strong or sporty sort of kid and my parents didnt help and I was made to feel ashamed and inferior and a bit of a wimp. But at 11 I moved to a new home with people who went in for natural living, and they saw that I was a pertfetly healthy kid and just need to be given the chance to develop and gain confidence, which they did. I was not very big or strong, and they saw that I would never be one of the heavies in the sporting world, but they saw I had a well made body and got me to take up running. Hard at first, but they kept me at it till one day, I suddenly found that I was better at running than most of the other kids at school around me. For me, that suddenly opened me up to myself, and I got to enjoy and become reasonably good at other athletic sports, like swimming and cycling, and to the triathlon. As my life went on, I never became any sort of champion, and I didn't want to, and I still dont, but I've enjoyed and relished the exhilaration of being able to use my body to do natural things away from standard urban living, and I still feel this way and hopefully always will.
