They totally should be in the Hall Of Fame and there's no reason why they aren't. There are so many bands, like Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, KISS, Pantera, Rage Against The Machine, Dream Theater, Skid Row, and Metallica that are hugely influenced by them. I've loved them since I was a little girl and, having been to three Rush concerts, know for a fact that they have no shortage of die-hard fans.

I have heard that Rolling Stone staffers have a fair bit of influence as to who is nominated for the HoF, and since they have an anti-Rush bias, it makes sense. It's ironic that bands who claim Rush as a major influence, such as Metallica, have been inducted. Whether you want to look at longevity, album sales, concert sales, their influence on other musicians/bands, musicianship, etc, I don't know how you can leave Rush out of the HoF. When you also look at how many other progressive rock bands are not in the HoF that (IMHO) deserve to be there, such as Genesis and Yes, it makes you wonder if Rolling Stone isn't biased against progressive rock bands in general. And there are some other glaring omissions, such as Alice Cooper and Kiss, to name but two.

They are popular! 35 years around the world says that these three guys are immensely popular. Playing Devil's Advocate here; just how many Canadian bands get elected to what is; when you get right down to it, an American HoF concept??

ggzo; I think I'm with you to a great extent on their peak being at or prior to Moving Pictures, but there are highlights on later albums; it's just that we lose the 7, 8, 9 minute rambles which allow Lifeson to go nuts - or Peart to ramble. Don't forget that Neil Peart had serious emotional trauma a while back, which may be a factor in his writing; but the albums from 2112 to MP are essential for me - and I will always, always buy any live release. I saw them on the Exit tour (Moving Pictures I suppose) and had seen them earlier on the Hemispheres tour too. Jaw dropping.

Yeah, they are pretty awesome. I got to see them at the Post-Gazette Pavillion in June. They are very cool. They've also discovered a newfound sense of humor. Good guys they are.

And like I said, it's a rarity, but my favorite Rush song wasn't written by Neil Peart. But I'm a rare guy, and I'm from a blue collar city, so what would you expect? lol

Yeah, it is a rarity. They slowed the tempo with Peart, and it's just as good.

Fly By Night is a good one too.

Your fave Rush song is one without Peart? That almost never happens with any Rush fan I talked to....But, really I don't know many fans of Rush. My fave is Fly By Night..Fly by night away from here...my ship isn't comin' and I just can't pretend...." How sad but pretty.

Their philosophy on government is a little different than mine is, but I like the individualistic themes. Songs like Freewill really speak to me... Limelight, where they discuss the good and bad of fame is really good. Tom Sawyer is the ultimate Rush song, and one of the best examples of how good they are. Peart's drumming and lyrical ability are in their highest form. Lee's ability to sing, play bass guitar, and keyboard are on fine display, and Lifeson's guitar work is almost always good. Working Man is my favorite, which came before Peart took over for Rutsey. Blue collar songs really speak to me. I feel it's overlooked alot because it was made before the band really took off with the 2112 album.

With Rush you either love them or hate em. Rolling Stone magazine often reviews their music negatively, and they're not airplayed as much as other classic rock bands with just as much talent were. They seem to be a very polarizing band, dispite the fact that they have lots of adoring fans, and on success alone should be in, they aren't because of the polarization.

It's a real shame, because they're just as good as Led Zeppelin or Van Halen or any other band in the HOF, and most importantly, they're still together, and tour.
