Freshly Pressed Sheets

When I was growing up my mother ironed the sheets which made the cotton fibers smooth and silky against the skin. They were always cool to slip between in the summer and with blankets on top, were warm and in the winter.

People don't iron sheets anymore, especially with permanent press fabrics. To me, those unironed sheets seem rough against the skin.

Sheets that are 500 to 600 count per inch feel almost as soomoth and silkly as those sheets of my childhood but nothing compares in my mind to the feel of those wonderfully soft, ironed sheets of long ago.
