Despite Its Creator

The first movie I ever saw in a drive in was the first Star Wars movie. It was amazing. Seeing Darth Vader on the really big screen. The ships. Everything. The next two were even better. Aliens. Magic. Space ships. Love. Robots. What is there not to love?

The next two movies were even better. Over the course of the years, the ways to enjoy the Star Wars universe grew. Comic books. Computer games. Books. Really good books. And then the new movies.

Despite those, and Lucas's attempts to destroy the original trilogy, I still love the films, the universe they introduced me to those many years ago, and the stories to be told in them.

Lucas had a ton of very talented people working with him on the original trilogy. And he hadn't yet gotten a big enough head and ego to think he was infallible. It shows. Episodes 4 and 5 were the best in the series. Things began going downhill with Return of the Jedi. There's a really good interview with Gary Kurtz about Lucas giving into greed and the "Dark Side" of marketing to the detriment of the Star Wars franchise here:<br />,44162/
