I Love Summer
Whether in the Aleutian Islands in January or Tierra del Fuego in June, everybody knows a little place like Kokomo. I haven't posted a song on EP for a long time, and I tend not to get all the way through others' song postings. People have short attention spans, me included. 3 1/2 minutes is a long time for a song or video that doesn't instantly connect with me. This song is my escape. It plays on my iPod, I close my eyes, and, for 3 1/2 minutes, get away from it all.
This fictional place "off the Florida Keys" is featured in the spring 1988 release recorded by the Beach Boys. It hit number 1, the first number 1 hit by the Beach Boys since Good Vibrations in 1966. No other recording artist or band ever went 22 years between No. 1 hits. I never saw the Tom Cruise film Cocktail, but those who did may remember this song from that film. The song has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it on the radio 24 years ago. I expect that it will still be a favorite 24 years from now.
My recommendation, if you need to get away from it all for 3 1/2 minutes, is to play the video, close your eyes, and relax. Just relax.
