Mercy: Chapter 3The Whelan manor, a luxurious estate complete with one of the top security systems and a five storied mansion in the shape of a W further flaunting their limitless power and wealth to all those who dare attempt to meddle with their business. With a large 30 foot brick walled fence surrounding the entire palace and four cameras, one at each corner covering multiple directions at once, it seems like an impossible task for anybody to enter the estate unnoticed, the sole way to get in through the two gates out front. To gain access one must gain permission from both guards at the booth of both gates to exit and enter the manor, Mark’s go ahead the single way to do so.
Leading onto the property are two driveways connecting together at the stairways leading into the mansion, a large fountain placed in the grass plot between the two roads. Off of the driveway leading in lays a garage, the road continuing underground to an even bigger garage like on at an airport’s. In the back of the house, only those of the family lucky enough to access it is an olympic size pool, along with an indoor spa and sauna to the right and a library to the left, commonly used by Mark to learn of new tactics and strategy for dealing with operations along with studying up on the law, should they ever be brave enough to attempt to bring him down.
Placed on all of the corners of the house and inside all of the halls within the house are even more cameras, nearly every square inch covered, Mark’s office, room, and Shane and Kelsey’s separate rooms earning the privilege to not be spied upon. If those precautions were not enough instead of regular glass being used for windows, each window, visible by the outside world is actually the strongest of bulletproof glass, only the most powerful of guns remotely having a chance of puncturing it. At night though is when the security boosts up even more, with several teams of three guards patrolling the grounds, two snipers sit perched on opposite times of the roof overlooking everything inside and outside of the palace. With such intense security, it seems like only a fools task to attempt to break into the mansion, especially with only a few knowing of the full extent of security, Alastair being one of them, not by Mark’s choice.
Following Sean up the steps, the doormen greet them both, shooting Alastair a dirty glance in the process. It’s no easy task being the rebellious son of the head of the family with nearly everyone working for him loathing your existence. Stepping into the lobby like entrance, two hallways at the corner of the room along with elevators to the sides and a large staircase at the back leading to the floor above, a reception counter feet in front of it, Sean and Alastair walk over to the elevators, taking one up to the fifth floor. Exiting the machine they walk down a corridor just a few feet away, before heading down a second one, Mark’s office at the end of the hall. As Sean moves to open the door, Alastair reaches by him and swings open the door, Sean welcomed to a room of guns drawn and aimed at him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing Sean?” Alastair says casually walking by Sean into the room as everyone puts their weapons away. “You know to open the doors slow when walking into an important meeting as to not draw any attention”
“Why you little!...”
“Sean, Alastair where the **** were you, you’re late” scolds Mark from behind his desk, setting down his glass of whiskey.
“I told you your little field trip on the way here wasn’t a good idea”
“What field trip?” questions Mark staring at Sean, who stares blankly back
“You know what I don’t care right now. We have bigger things to take care off. Sean I’ll talk to you after about your tardiness and rudeness when entering a room. Alastair you shut the **** up and grab a seat. I don’t want to hear a word come out of your mouth”
“Q” Alastair responds with a smirk, not speaking a word, Mark simply shaking his head ignoring his troubling child.
“Now that we’re all finally here” he shoots a glance towards Sean as he stands up, taking a sip from his alcohol, strolling to the front of his desk. “We can get this meeting underway. As you know a month ago we took out the head of a rival family of our friends the Guerreros, the family of which thanks to our efforts, has now disbanded from all the chaos. In return for our assistance the Guerreros are sending a shipment of weapons, supplies and a few rare and very valuable artifacts over tonight, one of which is very dire we receive. However, word on the street is that another of our rival families here in Boston, the Bellicks, has gotten word of this little transaction and its importance and is planning to strike to ensure they get their hands on what is rightfully ours. Unfortunately for them they are fools to even think about stepping onto our turf, let alone actually do it, for we are the most powerful, strongest, dangerous family in the world, a lesson they are going to learn the hard way yet again, but I want to do this differently than in the past. I want to utterly humiliate them, I want to wipe out everyman they send. To do this I need to draw them all out by having a small group used as bait, which will be headed by none other than Alastair. Seeing him they should send a good chunk of their troops, from which we’ll have Alastair and his team take out as much as they can before you Shane…” he points “lead the rest of our men into battle and trap them, cutting down every single last one of them. After that we’…”
“What if they don’t send a lot of men to attack me, or they have an even larger force than you expect?” Alastair asks leaning against the bar counter in Mark’s lounge like office.
“What did you say?” Mark questions
“Oh I’m sorry” Alastair starts “I forgot with your old age you can’t hear as well. Let me ask again slower Wwwwhhhhaaattt iiiiiffff tttthhheeeyyyy…”
“I can’t hear that well huh? Well at least I still have my memory, because if it serves me correct I showed you exactly what happens when you cross my path two weeks ago.” Mark responds back shutting up Alastair who grows an angry scowl on his face standing up, walking out of the room. “That’s right head go sit back down at the kiddy table” he jokes as Alastair takes a step out of the door, stopping upon the insult.
Swiftly turning around Alastair charges at Mark who readies himself for a fight, the people in the room on the edge of their seats for the fight of giants. Quickly focusing on the target at hand bl
“Sorry dad” he says slamming shut the door to his office.
Lifting his brother to his feet, Shane slams Alastair into the wall, the sheer force from the hit caving in the wall slightly in the shape of Alastair’s body. Holding his brother in the air by the collar of his shirt, Shane stares him in the eyes.
“What the **** do you think you’re doing you idiot!” he shouts slamming Alastair against the wall again
“Wow you’ve gotten strong” Alastair says sarcastically with a grin, Shane smashing him against the wall a third time.
“Why does everything have to be a joke to you!? Why can’t you ever take anything serious besides those few operations you go on!?”
“Why do you even care so much? You never have before?”
“What are you talking about?” he inquires setting Alastair down “ I’ve always cared about you”
“You sure have a funny way of showing it being Mark’s little lap dog always doing his bidding”
“Is that what this is all about, me working for dad? Alastair it’s what I have to do”
“No Shane it’s not what you have to do, what’s what you choose to do because you’re too much of a coward to stand up to him!”
“Really? I’m a coward for being smart enough not to step in dad’s way. You know you really are crazy Alastair”
“Yeah, just try to rationalize it for yourself Shane. Give yourself an excuse as to why you’re a coward, instead of dealing with the truth, that’s what you always do”
Running his hand over his face, Shane looks away before turning back to his brother, shoving his finger back into Alastair’s chest.
“Get your **** together Alastair, before it’s too late”
Storming back into Mark’s office, Alastair shakes his head watching his brother walk away. Striding back down the corridors, nearing a set of stairs leading back down to the fourth floor near the elevators, Alastair hears music blaring from down the opposite halls. Curious, already knowing who it is Alastair heads through the other series of halls, stopping at a slightly ajarred door at the end of the corridor, ultimately stepping inside to a giant sized room complete with pink walls, walk in closet, queen size bed, and living room size bathroom. Looking around he finally spots who he was looking for, his sister, focused solely on her make up sitting down in front of a large mirror on her desk, still unaware of his presence. Deciding to have some fun, he tiptoes over to her, crouching down. As she sets down her eye liner, grabbing her brush to comb her hair, she looks back up to find her popping up behind her, like a whack a mole, scaring her half to death as she fumbles her brush, moving her hands to her mouth.
“You ******* ***!” she screams as she turns around and hits him in the arm before lowering her the volume of her music. “You scared the **** out of me”
“Well maybe if closed and locked your door when you were busy I wouldn’t be as enticed to do that. Besides, why aren’t you at school anyway and doing your make up and stuff instead? Did a boy ask you out? Let me go kick his ***”
She giggles “No, I wished. About the boy that is not the you kicking his ***. Mark is taking mother and I to dinner tonight so I’m using it as an excuse to take the day off so I have time to “get ready””
“He bought that **** again I see.” Alastair states, as he walks over to Kelsey’s bed, plopping down on his back, legs hanging off the bed.
“Yeah, but that explains me, why are you back so early. Mark wants you to go on an operation tonight?”
“You got that right” he sits up. “Something about getting a shipment of supplies for him while fending off an army of Bellicks”
“Just another walk in the park huh?” she asks returning to brushing her hair.
“You guess? What happened to my always confident brother? That doesn’t sound like him”
“I don’t know, something just doesn’t seem right. Like it may be a trap or something”
Kelsey turns to Alastair worried, eyes seemingly trembling.
“You’ll be fine thought right?”
“Ahh don’t be worried sis” Alastair assures her walking towards her, placing his hands on her shoulders as she stares up at him. “I’ll be fine, trap or no trap l’ll take down any man who dares come between me and my goals, your’s and mom’s safety at the top of the list.”
Smiling she leans up and kisses her brother on his cheek. “Well you better go get ready then, so I can kick your *** later then when you get back for greeting a little while ago”
“Sounds good to me” he beams back, kissing her on her cheek as he gives her a bear hug, choking her slightly “Love you Kus”
“Love you too”
Exiting the room, Alastair heads back over to the stairs walking down to the fourth floor, to a large room with seemingly the same set up as Mark but in a different style with the same billiards table, bar, and lounge seats with a flat screen tv, this room available to any member of the family at any time. Nearly filled with people, being the most popular room in the house, Alastair strolls through the room, receiving multiple dirty glares along the way. Letting them fall onto uncaring shoulders Alastair leaves the room into the hall, deciding to pay one more visit before going to his room on the third floor. Continuing straight past the elevators, he walks to a double door room. Knocking he waits silently for several seconds before getting the go ahead.
“Come in” answers a soothing female voice
Opening the door, Alastair walks face to face with his father, both staring down one another without a twitch on their face before stepping by the other, deciding against creating an incident.
“What was he doing here?” Alastair asks as he steps in, shutting the doors behind him.
“Just making sure I’m still going with him and Kelsey to dinner tonight” his mother answers sitting on her king size bed
“You know for somebody who hates you just almost as much as you hate him he sure doesn’t mind spoiling you”
“He does have a public image to maintain. Probably the only reason why he keeps me alive anymore”
“And me too more than likely” Alastair responds with a grin, his mother not being able to resist herself from smiling as well.
“There you go with that stupid smile of yours again”
“Stupid smile? You always said you loved it besides it’s your fault anyway”
“Well I certainly didn’t get this irresitable smile from Mark. I doubt his muscles can form one without being stretched first”
“Stretching your lips muscles? Just how would one go about that?”
“I don’t know I was just saying. You would probably have to do some weird shi….stuff” he corrects himself catching a glare from his mother. “like this” he says moving his lip in a bunch of weird movements, his mother giggling.
“You always do manage to make me smile”
“That’s probably the only reason why you still keep me around”
“Now that’s not funny. You know that I will always love you no matter what, you are my child after all”
“Does the same go for Shane?”
“Yes it does. You and Kelsey may not agree with him, nor I for that matter but he is still my son and your brother no matter how misguided and cowardly he may be around¬ Mark.¬”
“Thank you, that was what I was trying to tell him earlier. Maybe you can get that to him through his thick skull”
“I don’t think you should be one to talk about thick skulls, you have one of the hardest heads out of anyone I’ve ever seen”
“I’m hurt” Alastair jokes “You’re making me shed a tear”
“Stop it you, you know what I mean. You can’t deny it”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, I know”
Alastair and his mother both look at one another smiling, Alastair having a worried look in his eyes.
“I’m sorry mom”
“For what hun?”
“For everything. For not being a perfect son. For not fulfilling my promise yet. For turning into a monster you never wanted me to be.”
“Alastair, where is this all coming from?”
“In case I die tonight. I just want you to know that I’m sorry, and that I love you”
“Oh Ally, you don’t need to apologize. You haven’t done anything wrong. I’ve never, ever stopped loving any less from time I first gave birth to you” Alastair makes a joking sick look, making his mother smile. “Besides, why are you even talking like this? You never have before”
“Just been doing a lot of thinking the last few days and just want to make sure you know how I feel about you”
“Oh Ally” she says kissing him on the cheek, both embracing one another in a hug. “Go get yourself some sleep alright. I’ll see you later when I get back so stop all your nonsense talk”
“I will” he replies kissing her on her cheek as he gets up from the bed, taking one last look upon his mom as he exits the room, a comforting smile on her face.
