I'm with you. English is gorgeous, regardless of whether it's spoken in an American, Canadian, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Australian or New Zealand accent (hope I didn't leave anyone out!) as long as it's educated. Yes, that sounds snobbish, but there you are. So many glottal stops in people's speech these days ... and I do wish people would learn to write properly. We have capital letters, apostrophes, and punctuation marks for a reason. So many people want to deal ONLY with lowercase letters (God forbid they use ANY other symbol), use numbers as words, and abbreviate as much as they can. It's worrying. I often wonder if text is just as appalling in other languages -- I think the French have issues with French texting as well. I can certainly understand how they feel.

I've had my fair share of stick for distinguishing between American and English :) At least software geeks are honest enough to refer to UK and US versions of the language :)
