Castlevania Fanatic

Yes! Its one of the best game series in my opinion. I remember when I first played Symphony of the Night, it was that game that really drew me into gaming. Since then I have gone back and played many of the original Castlevania games, and almost all of the Castlevania games made after Symphony as well(except for the N64 titles and Judgement). I like the originals because of their difficulty. I loved the challenge. It would always frustrate me at the difficulty of the levels and enemies so I would always stay up late trying to beat a particular level because I couldn't rest until I got it done.. At the same time, more recent games have characters with a wider range of abilities in stories that were more developed that couldn't be described in some of the 8 bit games. My favorite game story wise would Aria of Sorrow. Soma Cruz is bad ***, and the plot twist in the end was awesome. Order of Ecclesia was fun too. Shanoa had some interesting abilities and it was nice to have a female lead again(since Iga took Legends out of the game's time line). Of course since Symphony of the Night was my first Castlevania I'll also have a lot of love for that game as well, and my favorite pre-SotN games are Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and Rondo of Blood. Rondo was an especially good game. I liked how it had all the different paths you could take to beat the game. I haven't played th N64 versions and I've heard a lot of different opinions about them, but I haven't had a chance to play them.

Great post! My introduction to the CV series was actually through the N64 titles years ago, so they have a special place in my heart. Symphony of the Night and Super Castlevania IV came next. After that I was completely hooked!

I recommend giving the N64 games a try, specifically Legacy of Darkness. LOD is basically like the complete version of CV64. It improved and added a lot of things. Both games have their problems, but I think a lot of the flack they receive is unneeded. Legacy of Darkness is a legitimately good game, in my opinion, so I would give it a try if I were you.
