I Can Conjure the Smell At Will

hat sweet almond smell. The white bottle with the dark black Jergens slogan written across the widest part, always sitting prominently on my Mother's nightstand. I remember the sting it would leave on small, snow chapped hands and wind burnt cheeks.
As we were tucked in at night, that aroma would linger on my Mother and her mustard colored corduroy robe the one with the pockets as big as Captain Kangaroo's. We could taste it in her kiss. The smell would hover in our rooms long after she left. Like a nightlight for the senses. A cuddle blanket of that sweet, clean smell left to comfort us in the darkness.
