I Too Am Addicted to the Beloved Pine Sol

It started when I moved in with my "now ex-fiance." I felt I had to "extra" deoderize because I was living with a guy. One of my co workers told me he uses Original Scent Pine Sol for everything. So one day as I was buying my other "swear by" cleaning products, I bought the smallest bottle of Original Pine Sol. I used it to clean maybe twice a week. Then I noticed I started it using it everyday. Then I realized that I use to speed home just to open the bottle and have a "Pine Sol Fit" in my kitchen, living room, bedroom, extra room, and bathroom. My "Pine Sol Fit" consist of me splashing the cleaner all over full strength and wiping and scrubbing. My ex use to come home and say, "Mmm Piney Fresh." He would then kiss me on my lips then pull away fast and say..."Pine Sol?" Yes ladies and gentlemen, I started sniffing the bottle.

My fiance left me, but not the Pine Sol addiction. I moved away and used the Pine Sol as if I was still living on my own. My family use to gag, cough and scream at me because I was using TOO MUCH. Too much? There's no such thing when using this product. So when everyone was gone, I would wash my own clothes and add my desired amount of Pine Sol. I would douse my room with this product. I would also pour large amounts in the toilet tower and inside the toilet.

After a while, I noticed I had a weird ritual. When I would smell the bottle, I would scrub my tongue with a toothbrush. For some odd reason, it intenses the scent and sensation. Then late nights, I would type in "Addicted to Pine Sol" to see what would come up. And there they were, sites where other people confessed their Pine Sol addiction. There was once a site where people confessed. And before you knew it, 190 people responded to the site. This site is now gone. I would go to peoples houses and look in the bathroom just to see if they have this product, and when they didnt I would definately recommend it.

It's gotten worse...here and there I wash my body and hair with the product. The hot shower hitting the Pine Sol is sensational on my body.

Yup.......Original Scent Pine Sol, A Huge Bucket Of Hot Water, A Fresh Sponge. To die for...

As a nurse I've seen many persons like yourself that has to have their daily cleaning dose of Pine-Sol ( Taking hot baths/Showers, Washing their hair, teeth, tongue and their clothes etc.)

None of you are crazy or insane. You are suffering from some sort of depression and the Pine Scent is giving you an euphoric feeling.

Talk to your doctor and he may perhaps prescribe you an antidepressant.

Beware Sniffing Washing too much of Pine - Sol can make you have Aplastic Anemia - Exposure to toxic chemicals. Secondary aplastic anemia has been linked to exposure to toxic chemicals, such as some used in hair dyes, herbicides and insecticides. Exposure to benzene - an ingredient in gasoline, mothballs, paint and varnish removers, dry-cleaning solutions, and some glues and household cleaners - also has been linked to secondary aplastic anemia. This type of anemia sometimes gets better on its own if you avoid repeated exposure to the chemicals that caused the initial illness.

I am extremely addicted to the sent of pine sol, I would always have the urge to smell it every chance I get. But the thing is, im only 16 and I feel like I should get help for this. My parents found a bottle in my room. I always have the urge to scratch my tongue after inhaling this. What should I do?

I too am addicted and it wasn't until I was in my forties and hit peri menopause. Heavy periods... I also started craving ice. I didn't even like scented cleaners before this time in my life. Then it occurred to me. It is like a form of Pica. Occurs commonly in pregnancy and also women who are anemic. Original pine sol is from pine oil, and Pica triggers craving for other natural items like eating dirt, clay, licking rocks, the urge to eat gravel... So, if you wonder why, and think you need to stop, have your hemoglobin checked. I may have developed the cravings for ice and pine sol when my iron was low, but they are two things that make me so happy and peaceful. Less calories than chocolate, glad I am not alone in this addiction. But what can we do now that original pine sol is off the market?????????

I do all of that too but i dont wash up with it lol.but i
LOVEEEE to eat ice and smell it

I have had an obsession for pinesol for a quite few years now, the original scent is magical, there was nothing better in the world that coming home from work and have my daily one of many sacred snives, I kept a bottle by my bed and first thing in the morning, better than a cup of coffe was a sniff of pinesol, I have moved to the UK now and sadly they do not have pinesol here, they have all sorts of cleaning products ( which I have bothered myself in sniffing them all at the supermarket) but nothing is comparable to pinesol, so i gave up, i have a couple of good news tho, first is that people who is addicted or craves for pinesol don't have to worry about feeling guilty or bad because you might think you are building up an adiction since the product is addictive while you have it only around and sniff it out, I've been living in the UK for two months now and I clearly may say that I do not miss Pinesol ( which does not mean I don't love it) but what I'm trying to say is that pinesol doesn't cause distress or desperattion if you don't have it around, which is my case ( unlikely that is what happens with hard drugs like cocaine, etc), I'm going back to the States on april, so I will be going back to my old habit of sniffing it and to be honest I don't believe I would be able to bring some bottles here as they are non- permitted products to take overseas, but that won't make me lose my sleep..
the second good news is that if you ever decide to come to the UK, and miss pinesol as you won't find it here, is to try to sniff this product to which I am addicted now, is called PERSIL, is a liquid detergent, I don't know what the main ingredient is but it causes the same effect to me here, as pinesol caused me in the USA, it is just Fantastic!, but you have to buy the PERSIL NON BIO formula, I have even tasted it with my tongue and its sooooooooo good, cheers x x x

I thought I was the only one addictive to Pine Sol! Now I see that there is a large community!...lol
My family hardly used the original Pine Sol (we were either Mr. Clean or King Pine people) but in 2001 I ran into Lemon Scent and I haven't let go since. It was inside a day - care center where I had to do presentation for parents; the custodian had bought Pine Sol instead of Lysol, he got in trouble but turned out to be that all the parents involved had bigger interest in the way the floor smelled! And so true, the aroma is unique.
.

I am an newbie... LeSigh..yes I am now addicted to Sniffin...I have had family call poison control on me..I have had family post things on facebook...and I have had my mother tell me I can't bring it in the house...(thats ok I will go out to the car.) What is it about Pine sol?? and I have to tell you...it just started all of a sudden for me. About a month ago..I was cleaning with it..and it hit my nose just right...and all of a sudden I became...a PineSol Junkie. I haven't tried the bathing in it yet..and I hate to clean house so I am hoping this breaks my bad habit of not wanting to clean! Here is my Pine Sol habit. I have a bottle by my bed...and I have Ludens Cherry cough drops..I will eat a cough drop..and crush it with my teeth...and sniff my bedside bottle..I keep a bottle of about 1/8 full just for smelling...that with the cherry cough drop is as good as gold! I dont know what it is about this stuff..but they really should come out with candles and room fresheners just to get us junkies off the stuff...MY FAMILY THINKS I AM HUFFING! It does NOT give you a high..its just the smell is amazing!! It lifts depression, I mean big time! I sniff about 4 times a day now..I put some in my laundry..always for mopping and kitchen cleaning..and keep a bottle in my car. Well ..I have met my match...I never got addicted to anything..until I met my Pine Sol Luva! Take care!

tea tree oil has the same vibe...i think it might be a bit safer. I put a bit under my nose at night and use a bit in the shower in the AM. also Wen shampoo has the same aromatic feel

I started craving the Pine Sol scent a couple of years ago. I prefer the sweeter smell of a 1/3 Pine Sol, 2/3 water mix. I originally sprayed it all over the walls while showering, but now I wash my dishes with the mix and keep a small bottle of water with a dash of Pine Sol which I shake and gently inhale the foam into my nose then blow my nose. It clears up my congestion and lets me breathe clearly. Recently, I started showering with a 1/8 cup mix of Pine Sol to a bowl of water. I get the mixture frothy by filling under the shower, and I wash with dishwashing scrub sponge, which exfoliates as you wash. I use a washcloth dipped in the mixture for more sensitive areas. I've never experienced any side effects as some say, just make sure you rinse thouroughly when done. I swear you'll never as clean in your life!

I was pregnant and had the urge to smell pine sol mixed with a dash of lemon ammonia and it smells so good i cant stop

I have always used pinesol to clean. It works great and I like the smell too, but I only use it for weekly cleaning. I've never thought of pinesol in any other manner, but after reading these posts, I assume that some of the people overusing pinesol might curb the urge with some more natural astringent-type garden herbs, such as LEMON BALM, SPEARMINT, SAGE, ROSEMARY, OREGANO. perhaps even tea-tree oil?

GOOD LUCK

I spray t all over the bathroom, in my car, the desk next to my bed, the wall next to my desk at work. I carry mini spray bottles filled with pinesol. I spray everything every second of the day like my phone, It's protective cover, remote control, my window pane, and spend all day making excuses to spray pinesol on everything so I can sniff its wonderful scent. I have like 5 spray bottles of all sizes in all my rooms, purses, and work place. I sniff it all day non stop and my nose gets dry

First time craving the smell of pine-sol and it happens to start while I'm pregnant. I can't help it! It started with just using it to clean the bathroom to get the smell through the house. Then next I had to open the bottle and just inhale it, not to mention every store I went in I would head straight to the cleaning aisle to grab a bottle to smell and walk around with while I shopped. I knew I had to figure something else out when I would dap a little under my nostrils and that's when I satisfied my craving with pouring pine-sol on my pillows so I could smell it all the time while in bed the rest of my pregnancy. I know it's crazy but it helps having a subtle smell of it on my pillows and having it right there all the time as oppose to worrying about what if I could resist tasting it.

I LOOOOVE PINE SOL!! Well Pine Power but the original scent. I started my habit when I was 8 and now Im 21! Between those yrs it was off and on but w/in the last 3 months it has come back full force. I started w/ cleaning excessively, then sniffing, filling the sink w/ hot water and PINE SOL and now Im at the rag. Ugh! its just so good. I have to pretend to be using the bathroom just to sit for a few minutes and inhale my lovely scented rag. Then I inhale from the bottle and sniff a cold rag lightly scented w/ it. Clears it for the nxt sniff. My mom says its killing my brain cells but my grades IN COLLEGE say different. Oh! I poured it on my shower walls before I took a hot shower and OMG O_o wonderful doesnt describe it. lol its sad that half my pine sol gets gone bc of all my pouring. Since reading the comments, I will now try it w/ ice which i have an addiction too also :) 2 for 1! yay!!

Drum roll please!!!! I am the number one pinie, sorry people, but I am the Pine Sol Queen!!!! I have posted to every last post, or most, because I am the queen and it is my job to encourage the little pinies the preside under the almighty Pine god,LOL (JK)

Although I have been using this product for most of my adult life, I was only using the small bottles, but one day, just a few months ago, I happened to notice that I couldn't get enough of the smell of it. It seems that everyday draws one closer to learning or trying other things that can be used with pine sol. I use only the original, but the walmart brand. I use it to wash dishes, albeit a very small amount added to the dishwater, and I use it to wash my clothing, I use it for cleaning everything from walls, sinks, toilets, and especially to mop floors. I have tried it in a cup by my bedside mixed with water, but have found that over time, water combined with pine sol doesn't smell so good. However, this is only when some time has passed, (like days) as it begins to take on a completely different scent.

I am a sniffer, and I love to eat ice behind it.(sometimes) I have gotten so bad people, which ranks me at the top of the pinies in the Great Hall of Pine, that I have a flexi fit full face mask that I use when I want to sniff properly.(please do not try this at home!) Just imagine with me, if you will, holding up a mask to your nose, the strapless kind, and the tube part of the mask inside of the bottle and my hand wrapped around the top of the bottle to hold the tube in place and taking a really good sniff, like a weed junkie with a bowl or bong. (I don't do this all of the time) Ladies and Gents.....this makes me qualified to be the Queen of all pinies. LOL

Take a bow pinies, as this may be the beginning of a new era.

i am so with you! if I could eat Ice and smell pine sol all day.....Heavan!

i went on two different website and read a few stories.. and just to know your not the only one... whewwwww. i love it love it ... i have a bottle rite nect to my bed after work i smeel it for a few... and if i have ice even better.. i will even put it in a water botter nor a lot but enough to squeez e the bottle for the air to hit my nose.. it makes my mouth water,, it does something for me!! when i am in the store i cant walk by it without smelling it so i avoid that part of the store !!! i sneak sniffs at work and home when the kids are around.. makes me feel so dirty like this dark secret.. i just cant stop.. i have a big bottle now and shake it around before i smell it!! idk just does something for me

mhm. definitely. Again, as I've mentioned somewhere else, I would try purchasing pine oil directly from any respectable place that sells fragrance oils, I haven't tried this yet myself, but am looking into it.

you should read the other post that was from a woman that had craved pine sol during pregnancy, she said that the doctor told her that it was fine, since it didn't contain ammonia. You can read the story for yourself. Usually, as was in this persons case, pregnancy cravings stop after the pregnancy. I have never tried heating it up in the microwave before, wow.

omg im not alone- i smell it and then lick my upper lip yumm its smells and taste greeeat

omg im not alone- i smell it and then lick my upper lip yumm its smells and taste greeeat

well, idk...the taste that is left behind is sort of numbing to me. I am really beginning to believe that pine sol just may have cocaine in it. LOL I definitely believe that there are some kind of addictive properties/ingredients in it.

This is blowing my mind. In the last 2 years I have become extremly addicted to Pine-Sol. I do not know what it is. It started just a smell here and there. I would fill up my sinks and so forth. I would put soaked rags in my a/c vents. Then I started smelling it out of the bottle. I mean I put my nose in the bottle and smell as hard as possible. I have had times when I would come home from work and head straight to the bathroom or kitchen to smell it. After a while I no longer get the smell I am chancing. I take a rag fold it four ways than pour the pine-sol and make sure it soaks the rag all the way through. I put my nose in the rag and breath and God it smells good. I also inhale or breath the smell. I thought maybe it was because I was going through premenopause. This goes on day in and day out. I have a bottle at work that I keep filled. I have a bottle in the kitchen and a huge one in the bathroom. I also have a rag soaked with the stuff on my bed. I wake up and the first thing is I want to smell, breath and taste it. I wished I could go into a room were it was saturated with the stuff and every breath I took was straight pine-sol. Am I losing my mind or what? I am so glad I am not alone. One comment made about pine-sol was being pregnant and craving to smell it and the doctor said it was ok because it did not have amonia in it. If it is ok for a preg. woman than it can not hurt us. I never dreamed I would find others who have the same addiction. WOW

I understand, I've actually used it for sniffing, by putting q tips in the bottle and soaking the tips, and using this method for sniffing all the time. However, as I've posted previously, I don't like the smell once it's been exposed to water for days, or just sitting around on cotton or rags for days. It has to be fresh for me. I also read the same story, about pregnancy and craving the smell of it, and was pleased to hear that a doctor believed it to be safe although, I have my doubts about that. I would like to believe that it is harmless.

OMG I am so glad there's nothing wrong with me...lol

I though for years that I had some sort of weird disorder with loving the smell of Pine Sol. I have to keep a bottle in the bathroom and in my car at all times. Even when I go to the stores I have to find the aisle with the Pine Sol so that I can get a few good sniffs.

I went to Jamaica and Israel this summer and I had to pack a small bottle to take with me because I could not go a day without the smell. On my 10hr flight to Israel I wanted a smell so bad, I couldn't wait to get my baggage. As soon as I was checked into my room, I got out my Pine Sol and put it in the bathroom and got a big sniff.

I just love the smell so much!

You my friend, are a pinie princess, one step below that of the pinie Queen. LOL

Well, well, well look at what i have found, OTHERS THAT LOVE THE BEST SMELL EVER "PINE SOL!!" original that is and no other. This is crazy funny but I love it, so many people in my square tell me that I need help. So funny I laugh and keep it "sniffin" my people know what I do, they make sure its a bottle at their house for me though; so now what!!!! LOL I thought that I to was the only one that did this besides my friend Kim, until now when I was sittin here sniffin as usual and I decided to google if this really was a problem or issue. I don't feel like I have a problem, hell it ain't like I'm snorting coke or some ****, its "PINE SOL" PEOPLE!!!!! its feels really good to know I'm not the only one and even if I was it wouldn't matter I'm still going to sniff it. I love to sniff it every chance I get I find myself rushing home to get a few sniffs in if I don't have a bottle in my car for some strange reason or if I ran out at work. I will admit that I do have a botlle by my bed on the night stand and guess what that's where it will stay. I have a bottle in every room. until next sniff "PINEY's" Keep on "SNIFFIN"

omg!! So hilarious...I've found that pinie stories are so funny, and I actually found this site only because I had googled pine sol addictions. I am crazy nuts for the stuff myself, and although it is not coke...it is quite addictive, and I've noticed that smell is very heady, at least for me it is. I have definitely gotten high from inhaling it, but it usually lasts for about 3 or 4 minutes, 5 at the most. love, love, love your story.

I thought I was crazy! I can sit with the bottle and watch tv and periodically sniff the pine sol all day long! It has to the real stuff! I cant stand the knock offs! I will even fill up my bathroom sink with hot water and pine sol so my room will smell of it for hours! Even in when I do the grocery shopping shopping i go down the cleaning isle and get "my fix" by opening a bottle in the store and getting a long whiff! People must think Im nuts!! LOL I cant help it! I simply adore the smell! Im so glad I found that their are other pinies out there too!

LOL..oh wow, you really have it bad. Do you look around to see whom it is that may be watching you when you're shopping and getting your freebie high? Okay, so you say that it has to be the real stuff, what kind do you buy?

I love the walgreens version of pine sol. I never was addicted to it until I became pregnant with my daughter...I would sit and sniff the bottle. I asked the dr and she said it was normal and that it wasn't harmful because it didn't contain amonia, just pine oil. After my daughter was born the craving went away, now I am pregnant again and it has returned.....I sit and sniff a rag with pine sol on it.

wow, what a story. It's amazing that you know...they say that each pregnancy is different, but yet you have had the same craving of it for both pregnancies. A doctor in support of inhaling pine sol...hmmmm that's interesting that she would say that, because the bottle itself only contains about 8% pine oil, so G-D only knows what the other ingredients are.

Um.. ew?

I LOVE PINESOL SOO MUCH !

I love to sniff it, i wonder what would happened if i ver bathe in it ? My husband tell me not to sniff it because its like sniffin drugs and it can damage my brain cells, honestly its worth it ! i love pine sol i wash my sheets with it AND I JUST CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT. The rite aid name brand pine sol i recommend its the Very Best Smell YET !!

xoxo -mrs pinesol freak

wow, that's the second time rite aid has been mentioned as far as preferred brand. Thanks, I can't get enough of it either. It seems to me like cutting out the other chemicals would be safer, like maybe just buying pine poil, and adding the soap and water to it, I don't know, but I've been thinking about it.

before i would use different cleaners to clean, and every now and then i would use pine-sol. But then i tried to stop smoking, and after a couple of months i started again, because i gained too much weight too fast. so i would go into the bathroom at night and sneak a one. the stongest scent that i had to help cover the smoke smell was pine-sol. after being in the small bathroom and having the pine sol in the sink with hot water, the scent would just fill the room. and i started to love it, more and more. this happend within about the last 3 months, but now im finding that i will go out of my way to buy a bottle of pine sol just to have the bottle in my home so i can smell the cleaner out of the bottle. I thought that there was something wrong with me. i havent heard of anyone being addicted to the smell. i thought that i was just thinking weird. I have just reciently washed clothes with the cleaner, because i ran out of laundry detergent. but i dont shower with it, but i do find that i love toothepaste now, and brushing my teeth more after smelling pine sol. Im afraid that smelling this stuff will make me brain damaged... can that be possible?

lol. I think that any chemical over years of long term use can cause brain damage. These pine sol stories tickle me so much. I also love the heady scent of pinesol. I started with the small bottle, and then moved up to the 48 oz, and now get it by the gallon. Is there a bigger size? Perhaps Sam's Club may have an economy size. Thanks for sharing your story.

i too am a pine sol addict since i was 19 and i'm 32 now. but now i prefer the rite aid pine cleaner and the one they sell at kmart. its crazy i walk around with a rag that i stick half the rag inside the bottle ..shake it. then wrap the dry part around it and take it along with a bottle everywhere...i also will boil hot water then add it to the pine cleaner and just inhale the vapors. people i know call me pine sol. ...i never knew there were others
