Whose Culture Is This And Does Anybody Know?

Just one of the many lines by the Strokes that have made me think.

Whose culture is this? Who decided that a sixteen year old with two personalities would be in the top ten on billboard charts? Violence and sex and drugs are everywhere. I didn't want this. My friends didn't want it either. So who shaped the culture that we see everywhere today? I don't like any of it. But this is my culture. This is our culture. This is what we'll be remembered by.

We're forced to deal with it even though we didn't decide it.
