It Is Alive and Well In Victoria BC Canada ...

I wrote this as a reply in a posting ... info for people looking to find that era/time, etc. Since it is rather long - I thought I would post it as the Story as well.  I have added a few extra details in here ...

Sounds like you need to come to Victoria BC Canada.  We have many old Victorian Homes and Heritage Buildings, etc.  We have Craigdarroch Castle (built in the 1890s) and there is Pinehurst Mansion built in 1889 in James Bay that is in the middle of the whole residential area.  James Bay is the oldest residential area on the West Coast above San Francisco (so I am learning more now).  I used to live right by there and had a friend that lived there when it was rentals.  It is now converted to Condominiums but you can still see this awesome building for what it must have been at one time.  We also have many old Mansions in the Rockland area (Rockland Ave.) as well.  I used to live in that area too.  At the end of May (especially)  we have the Victoria Day Weekend.  All the beautiful old Victorian dresses and other Victorian attire come out as well as the Penny-Farthing bicycles, etc.  We have a parade that lasts about 3+ hours as well.  You can join in all the festivities and live the Victorian era here.  I think we still have our old time Photo Gallery in Market Square (I think it is still there) as well as many other Victorian Era places to shop.  A lot of movie filming goes on here because of this city.  We also have the oldest China Town in Canada.  I am trying to post two links - one for Craigdarroch Castle and one for Pinehurst Mansion.  Also there is the Emily Carr House located at 217 Government St., James Bay.  I have been in the house and YES - you are allowed to play the old piano (1849 ?).  I did along with another girl from Germany that was Classically Trained.  She brought that house to life by playing "Jesu - Joy of Man's Desiring.  (Commonly heard piece).  She had never played it before but we found the sheet music on top of the 2 foot pile of music on the floor.  This is just a starter kit for ya.  So many others that you can Google to find out more about ...  Check out Tourism Victoria BC.  It has variations of what you may be looking for, etc.  Enjoy ...

P.S.  You may just have to Google those names for more info - it doesn't like the links posted here.  A little research for you.  I also took one semester of Piano lessons in the Craigdarroch Castle when the Royal Conservatory of Music was located there - so incredible (back in 1979).  (I am self taught otherwise.)  The Conservatory has now moved.  The Pinehurst Mansion is located at 617 Battery St in James Bay.  Just took my Ex-Husband (who also drove Cab here) down there in 2011 - he didn't know that it existed.  We also had 229 Cruise Ships stop in Victoria in the summer of 2012.  (I think that number is correct).  The Victorian Era is alive and well here ...

>>>  I will try to post the three links here for now ... I hope they work and I will check them out and edit accordingly.
