I Love the Way Music Makes Me Feel
I’m headed to see the Who perform Quadrophenia tonight. Was on the floor for Muse last month, the Killers the month before that. Went to the Coachella Music festival last spring where I saw Radiohead, the Black Keys, FATM, Jimmy Cliff, Artic Monkeys, The Shins and a host of others; just got my tickets to this year’s festival last week.
I've seen more music in the last 12 months than the 12 years before that, maybe 20. I’ve always loved music but never was much of a concert goer. Oh, I've seen some great shows through the years …. Stones, Springsteen, Dylan, Petty, the Dead, Police …. but missed a lot of great shows too. What’s changed? I've reached a point where I guess I’m going to do what makes me happy. Also, with the kids older and largely taken care of, I feel comfortable spending money on me … rather than thinking about that tuition bill. But the biggest change is I now have a partner to go with me For years my wife and I really didn't see eye to eye musically. Actually, it was more like she had little interest in music. Her car radio was set to talk radio … music wasn't a part of her life. Then Twilight came along. She, like many other women her age, is a twi-nut. For the most part I laugh at it, but one positive is that she loves all things Twilight … including the music … and there was actually some pretty good music in those movies. So now, I can get her Muse tickets for Christmas and make her day. She's not going to the Who with me ... haven't quite got that far .. but it has been a great change.
My goal now is to take a music vacation. We've done film ones.. been to several film festivals. Hmmmmm ....South by Southwest sounds good. Time to start planning a trip.
