Harbor By Vienna Teng

Here where the daylight begins
The fog on the streetlight slowly thins
Water on water's the way
The safety of shoreline fading away

Sail your sea, meet your storm
All I want is to be your harbor
The light in me will guide you home
All I want is to be your harbor

Fear is the brightest of signs
The shape of the boundary you leave behind
So sing all your questions to sleep
The answers are out there in the drowning deep

Sail your sea, meet your storm
All I want is to be your harbor
The light in me will guide you home
All I want is to be your harbor

You've got a journey to make
There's your horizon to chase
So go far beyond where we stand
No matter the distance, I'm holding your hand

Sail your sea, meet your storm
All I want is to be your harbor
The light in me will guide you home
All I want is to be your harbor

My dad introduced me to Vienna Teng's unique blend of music a few years ago after he happened to see her perform to an audience of about 100 people in a yoga studio in the city. I fell instantly in love with her style and her beautiful, powerful, emotional lyrics. This song quickly became one of my favorites because of the amazing piano music and the strong sense of hope the words left ringing in my ears. I loved this song long before I knew my boyfriend as anything more than "the weird kid Michelle eats lunch with who always wears that ridiculous blue vest." Now, though, Harbor holds a much deeper meaning to me than I ever imagined it would.

My boyfriend is currently completing his sixth day of the indoctrination period for plebes at the US Merchant Marine Academy, while I am completing my sixth day of being without him for the first time since we started dating, praying for his safety, and counting down the days until I can talk to him (5 days) and see him again. (roughly 4 months)

It blows my mind that a song I've enjoyed for so long has turned out to be so correct about the things I am experiencing and learning to deal with in this transitory period of my life - the aftermath of completing a high school education.

You're welcome! She's trained as a classical pianist, so some of the stuff she does is truly incredible! I love her soooo muchhhh.
