We Just Had An 11-inch Rain In Las Vegas!

We're all so happy!

At first it was only a fourteen-inch rain. But then it intensified, and became an 11-inch rain. Soon it was a 2-inch rain. At its peak, it was a 1/4-inch rain. It's gone now.

You see, we don't get much rain out here. So we don't measure rain by the depth of rain in a rain gauge (whatever that is), but by how far apart the drops are on the pavement.

This was the best rain we've gotten in many months!

[In all seriousness, it really has been many months since we've seen more than a trace. We're in a multi-year drought. Parts of town got 2/3 of an inch today, but we only got a trace. The moist air should be around for another few days, so we're hoping tomorrow or the next day, we'll get enough to measure.]

We had not a cloud today, and cool. I think the Brits are hogging all the rain.
No, I'm not familiar with the Nederburg. I shall look for it, thanks!

No, I can't say I've ever been to South Africa. I do have a couple of bottles of "Goats Do Roam" tucked away in my cellar. I took wine classes for a couple semesters from a sommelier who spent a couple years in South Africa, in the Stellenbosch area. He told us of Charles Back at Fairview vineyards outside Paarl, who has white goats, and who produces "Goats Do Roam", "Bored Doe", and some other capriciously-named wines.
I grew up in a semi-tropical climate, and was rather surprised when I moved to Las Vegas to learn that it is possible to get thunder and lightning and wind and dark clouds...and not a drop of rain...it all evaporates before it hits the ground! Very rude! :-)
Good luck with your rain!

Thank you, ladee54. I hope you get your rain! And if the rain you send reaches us, I shall open a bottle of "Goats Do Roam", and think of the Paarl Valley, and of Stellenbosch, and thank you for the rain!

Well, some would call it being a smart-alec, but I'm glad it made you smile!

Darn, now I'll NEVER get rain!

Well, it wasn't REALLY 11 inches. Check the story again. :-)
