I Love to Read Mystery Novels
I am a fan of the "alphabet series" of detective novels written by Sue Grafton, (A is for Alibi, B is for Burglar, C is for Corpse, etc.). While they may not be as clever and "atmospheric" as Conan-Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, Ms. Grafton's stories and detective Kinsey Milhone are mostly believable and thoroughly human. Working one's way through the series, Ms. Milhone becomes a most endearing figure, much like a character in a weekly television drama. Not classic, great literature perhaps, but plots intricate enough to keep the reader's attention and characters developed well enough for the reader to care about them. If you're the type who would just as soon read a book as watch the latest episode of "whatever's on", you may enjoy spending a few hours with Ms. Grafton and detective Kinsey Milhone (and may even end up working your way through the alphabet). The last I saw she was up to the letter V, (can't wait to see how she works the letter X into a title.)
