Creating a Formal Rose Garden

A personal story in the experience: I Love to Take Care of My Garden
F or one of my oldest memories my grandmother gave me a climbing yellow rose when I was 7 years old.  As far as I know it either stayed at my parents home when I joined the military or they moved it to the farm.  I have not seen it and I have not asked about it.  About 10 years ago my favorite plant nursery near my home was having a sale on roses late in the season.  You know the one that is buy 2 get 1 free deal.  3 lead to 6 and so on until I filled my back yard with buckets and tubs of all sizes since I was renting.  About a year ago I purchased my first home.  I have been here a full year now.  The first to arrive here were my roses most of 350 of them.  It has taken the last few months to unserstand their needs and mine as I completely destroyed the front yard making my version of a formal rose garden.  I still have many of my roses in pots but since June 2009 I have permanently built 15 individual gardens in the front of the new house at the lawn level framed between 2 raised beds that run the length of the front lawn from the driveway to the neighbors along the street and along the house.  I am trying to copy the municiple rose garden in the center of my town but doing it much bettern since it is a private affair for everyone to admire but only a few get inside to really see what I have done.  I use Jackson & Perkins, Weeks, Hortico (Canada), and Growquest for my roses.  The formal garden that I am creating has lawn between and each garden is framed into the ground so that my lawn can grow right up to the edge of each.  I am particularly fond of my Hybrid Tea roses Legends (AKA the Oprah Rose), Bewitched, Whisper, Brandy, JFK, Peace, Double Delight, Saint Patrick, Oregold, Welcome Home, and Veterans Honor.  My climibing roses will add a private touch to the center of the gardens.  Please keep my posted on your progress as you also learn the importance of caring for your garden.
