The Lone Wanderer

Twenty-first century America descended into an era of political paranoia and mania similar to the 1950s. The U.S government became more and more militant and aggressive against its real and imagined enemies. As the world's fossil fuel supplies started to dry up and conversions of the existing fossil-fuel infrastructure to the recently-invented nuclear fusion power lagged, people in the United States and across the globe became desperate. The war between U.S and the People republic of China has become more and more desperate. Both nations thought they could win the war by using the nuclear power as the US once did to the Japanese. In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 23, 2077, the sky over the United States was filled with nuclear missiles and Chinese bombers carrying hundreds of nuclear bombs. No one knows who started the Great War by firing their weapons first. Other countries, seeing the missiles on their way, launch their planes and fire their warheads as well. What ensues is two hours of nuclear bombardment upon the earth's surface. The effects are far worse than most imagined. The earth's faults shift violently. Mountain ranges thrust themselves through the soil. Whole lands are submerged under floods of water. Peoples who survived this disaster called it The Great war. The Great war outcome changed most of the planet into a radioactive wasteland. Those who did not die in the initial nuclear weapon exchanges (likely less than half the world's population) lived in darkness or radioactive misery for decades as much of the Earth's plant and animal life died off from lack of food, sunlight and the persistently high levels of radiation. Yet, living in subterranean vaults or frozen in cryogenic chambers, humanity (at least in the United States) persevered. Most of American who awared of the Great War has sealed themself in the Vault. A Vault is a type of a subterranean installation. Officially, they were designed for the sole purpose of sheltering up to one thousand dwellers from a nuclear holocaust. But, they were actually used as an experiment for the government. It has impenetrable walls protecting it from the disasters of the post-apocalyptic world. Of the 122 Vaults, only 17 were control, meaning that only 17 were made to public expectations, all others were designed to include a social experiment, sometimes with a select few of the inhabitants observing the occupants. And this bring us to the adventure of the lone wanderer who came from Vault 101....
