Little Boy And Wooden Sticks

I can remember in my boyhood, that I liked wooden sticks. Any piece of wood that was less than 1 inch x 1 inch for any length. In my time, a home handy man only had hand tools. Any projects my dad made out of wood didn’t result in scrap sticks because he used a hand saw. You couldn’t be bothered to hand cut an extra half inch, instead you would just go with the wider piece of wood. With power saws, it’s so easy to cut precisely, so you would end up with sticks.
So sticks were rare. But they were a good size for a little boy. I remember pretending to use one as a rifle but I don’t remember using them for swords. I remember seeing golf on TV so I made a putter with a stick.
I remember my parents buying a large rug that was rolled up. Inside the rug coil was a bamboo stick. I used it as a flag pole. I was disappointed to see it cut down to be used to stake tomatoes in the garden.

It was only after I cut wood with a power saw that I lost my attachment to sticks. They’re so easy to make.

LOL true, we had simple toys and games way back then. Kick the can, Red Rover, Hide and Seek, Duck Duck Goose, Button button, just to name a few.
